Mr. Hoang Anh Quang, Director of the Traffic Management Board, said that the board currently manages and regularly maintains 6 entrusted national highways with a length of nearly 137 km; 22 provincial roads with a length of more than 283 km; 25 urban routes with a length of more than 51 km, and routes in the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery area. To proactively mobilize human and material resources, the Department of Transport has contracted with 2 units managing road routes and 1 unit managing inland waterway routes in the province to effectively implement the tasks.
Currently, Quang Tri Traffic Construction and Management Joint Stock Company is assigned to develop plans to prevent and mitigate natural disasters on routes managed and maintained by the unit with a length of more than 105 km of national highways; more than 100 km on 10 provincial roads and more than 51 km on 25 urban roads. Tan Hung Joint Stock Company is responsible for developing plans to prevent and mitigate natural disasters on national and provincial highways with a length of nearly 215 km managed and maintained by the unit. Thanks to the assignment and specific and timely work plan, the work of ensuring the safety of traffic works in the area is always well implemented.
The units have prepared about 120 workers and modern machinery, not to mention mobilizing more human resources and vehicles when necessary to ensure smooth traffic. The road management units have fully deployed forces and vehicles, especially in areas with high risk of traffic jams such as Dakrong and Huong Hoa districts. For inland waterways, at the river management stations of Hieu River, Thach Han River, Ben Hai River and O Lau River, about 20 personnel are on duty 24/7 to ensure traffic safety.
According to Mr. Hoang Anh Quang, to complete the assigned tasks, in addition to professional work, timely response and early overcoming of consequences of natural disasters, minimizing damage to roads and constructions are always top priorities.
The assigned units have completed the work of dredging ditches, clearing drainage pipes, and warning of potentially dangerous locations. The units constructing unfinished works are determined to speed up the progress and develop a plan to ensure safety when there are floods; establish a command committee for natural disaster prevention and search and rescue at construction sites. Take advantage of favorable weather to speed up the construction progress to complete unfinished works to overcome the floods. Therefore, in the past time, although the province was affected by floods caused by storms No. 3 and No. 4, thanks to proactive plans to ensure traffic safety, all traffic disruptions were soon resolved, promptly serving the travel needs of people and socio-economic activities...
Every year, the central government and the Ministry of Transport always pay attention to and create conditions for the province to provide part of its resources to repair the road systems. Thanks to that, the management and maintenance work on the routes is better, the life of the works is extended to serve effective and regular exploitation. Many national highways, provincial roads, urban roads, and district roads are invested in and upgraded, contributing to changing the appearance of the entire province's traffic infrastructure system, meeting the travel needs of the people and vehicles participating in traffic, limiting traffic accidents, contributing to promoting socio-economic development.
Deputy Director of the Department of Transport Tran Ngoc Son said that in the coming time, the Traffic Management Board will strengthen its direction, management, and coordination to ensure traffic; inspect roadbeds, repair and clear the flow of the bridge and culvert system; install warning signs and water level posts. At locations at risk of landslides, there will be technical plans to ensure traffic, and necessary spare materials and equipment will be gathered in advance. Check, maintain, and supplement materials and equipment for traffic safety work.
Prepare forces and means to be ready to handle incidents quickly, effectively and promptly, ensuring traffic is always smooth; effectively respond to complex natural disaster situations as forecasted to directly affect the province from now until the end of the year. Direct road management units to strengthen road patrols, check underground overflow locations, and clear the flow of bridges and culverts. Urge and direct contractors to speed up the construction progress of periodic repair works, complete and take measures to ensure traffic safety during the rainy and stormy season.
