Tanzania welcomes Vietnamese investors

(NLDO)- Tanzania has over 1 million hectares of fertile farmland and many important minerals such as gold, nickel and rare earth.


On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Tanzania, from February 27 to March 1, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang paid a working visit to Dar es Salaam, and held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania Mahmoud Thabit Kombo to discuss measures to strengthen the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of trade and investment.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Tanzania, identifying Tanzania as one of the leading important partners in Africa.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang shared that Vietnam has strengths and experience in aquaculture, is willing to share and support Tanzania and suggested that Tanzania seek partners for tripartite cooperation to take advantage of resources from developed countries. Vietnamese enterprises such as Viettel can participate in the digital transformation process, building e-government... in Tanzania.

To create new momentum and breakthroughs in the cooperative relationship, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang suggested that the two sides actively coordinate to soon organize the second meeting of the Joint Committee on Bilateral Cooperation; and suggested that Tanzania consider opening a diplomatic representative office in Hanoi.

In an open and friendly atmosphere, Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo introduced Tanzania's development potential, especially in the agricultural sector with over 1 million hectares of fertile arable land and the mining sector with many important minerals such as gold, nickel and rare earth.

The Minister emphasized that Tanzania wishes to expand and diversify cooperation areas with Vietnam, is ready to welcome and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese investors, focusing on potential areas such as irrigation, aquaculture, agricultural processing and preservation, rice production, real estate, mining, high-tech development, e-government, and expert training, etc.

The two sides agreed to increase trade exchanges commensurate with the scale and demand of the two countries' markets, through specific and practical measures such as increasing the exchange of business delegations, trade promotion activities, participation in international fairs and exhibitions held in each country; promoting negotiations and signing of important documents such as the Agreement on Investment Promotion and Protection, the Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation, etc. to contribute to perfecting the legal basis and creating favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries.

Based on the foundation of good political relations, the Tanzanian Foreign Minister suggested that the two countries consider organizing an annual business forum in rotation to enhance opportunities for exchange and mutual understanding. In addition, the Minister highly appreciated Viettel Group's investment in the telecommunications sector in Tanzania (Halotel), and suggested that Halotel expand its investment in Tanzania. On this occasion, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang thanked and suggested that the Tanzanian Government continue to pay attention and support the Halotel joint venture to operate stably and effectively.

During her time working in Tanzania, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang also visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in Tanzania and Halotel.
