Within the framework of the working trip of the Ho Chi Minh City High-Level Leadership Delegation to the US, the Ho Chi Minh City National University and the Doerr School of Sustainable Development – ​​Stanford University officially signed a cooperation agreement in Stanford, California, USA (October 16).

VNU-HCM and Doerr School of Sustainable Development signed a cooperation agreement.

The cooperation agreement between VNU-HCM and Doerr School of Sustainable Development aims to promote scientific research, academic exchange, improve training quality and knowledge transfer in key areas: Waste management, treatment and recycling technology; Climate change, greenhouse gases and NetZero targets; Protection of water resources and urban air quality; Sustainable energy and data centers; Implementation of pilot projects on environment, energy and sustainable development in Ho Chi Minh City and high-tech fields.

According to information from VNU-HCM, at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Vice President, emphasized that the signing of this cooperation agreement is not only an opportunity for the two universities to share knowledge and technology in the fields of environment and energy, but also the first step for VNU-HCM to cooperate more deeply with other Stanford member schools in high-tech fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, biotechnology and smart university cities.

The two sides pledged to mobilize resources to implement cooperation projects, workshops, training and exchange of lecturers and students between Stanford and VNU-HCM. This is a concrete step to address environmental challenges and at the same time form "3-house" cooperation models (School - State - Enterprise) for sustainable urban development.

Also according to information from Ho Chi Minh City National University, at the ceremony, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City is prioritizing the development of digital transformation, digital economy and clean energy, so it is in great need of high-quality human resources and breakthrough solutions.

City leaders also expect that the cooperation between VNU-HCM and Stanford University will open up training programs, research and joint laboratories according to the city's needs to train a generation of high-quality human resources with a global vision for Vietnam.

Professor Arun Majumdar, Dean of the Doerr School of Sustainable Development, said the collaboration would generate research with practical impact, leading to sustainable energy and environmental solutions for Southeast Asia. He stressed that the school’s strategy focuses on connecting innovation with industrialization and training the next generation of leaders capable of creating change – goals that are completely similar to the development orientation of Ho Chi Minh City.
