Focus on implementing the peak month against IUU fishing in the province

Implementing the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 198 on the implementation of the Peak Month against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and sustainable development of Vietnam's fisheries sector, on October 29, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province sent an official dispatch to agencies and units that are members of the provincial IUU Steering Committee; Commune-level People's Committees and a number of provincial departments and branches requesting them to focus on implementing the peak month against IUU fishing in the province.

The Provincial People's Committee requests agencies and units that are members of the Provincial IUU Steering Committee to thoroughly grasp and enhance the sense of responsibility of cadres, civil servants, and public employees, especially leaders, in implementing the task of combating IUU fishing; attaching the responsibility of heads of Party committees, authorities at all levels and functional forces to the results of combating IUU fishing; the head of any locality where fishing vessels violate IUU fishing must be responsible to his/her superiors. In addition, continue to carry out the peak period of combating IUU fishing; allocate sufficient resources, regularly and continuously direct, urge, inspect, and supervise the agencies and functional forces under his/her management to implement tasks and solutions to combat IUU fishing; periodically, before 5:00 p.m. every Saturday, synthesize and report the results to the Provincial People's Committee (through the Department of Agriculture and Environment).

The People's Committees at the commune level in the province shall make a specific list and have a plan to manage and closely monitor fishing vessels that do not meet the local operating conditions, ensuring full information on the quantity, owner, location of the vessel being anchored, the cause... and fully archive records and images for proof when requested; review and announce the opening of fishing ports for fishing ports that meet the prescribed conditions. At the same time, request fishing vessels in the area to fully comply with the prescribed fishing vessel procedures; manage fishing vessels with a maximum length of less than 6 meters and vessels serving aquaculture activities in the area as required; review and make a list of establishments purchasing aquatic products exploited outside the fishing ports that have been announced to be open and request these establishments to commit not to purchase aquatic products exploited from fishing vessels unloaded outside the areas of fishing ports that have been announced to be open.

The Provincial People's Committee also assigned a number of specific tasks and completion deadlines to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Provincial Border Guard Command, the Provincial Police and a number of departments, branches and units to complete the work of combating IUU fishing in the province.
