Previously, on November 16, cargo ship number HY 0459, capacity 250CV, owned and captained by Mr. Nguyen Cong Sinh (from Hai Phong ), was traveling from Hai Phong to Can Gio, with 5 crew members on board. While moving to the Quang Ngai sea area, the ship suddenly had a problem with the rudder breaking and drifting. At about 6:00 p.m. the same day, the ship was washed ashore by waves and ran aground at the above location.
Upon receiving the news, the People's Committee of Duc Pho Ward sent forces along with officers and soldiers of Pho Quang Border Guard Station, Tra Cau Ward to quickly approach the scene and support the ship in distress.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Minh Thu, Head of Pho Quang Border Guard Station, said that through on-site inspection, the health of the crew members is basically stable; the risk of oil spill from the wrecked ship is not high. The unit has assisted the captain in repairing the rudder and arranged temporary accommodation for the crew members at a local shrimp farm.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Minh Thu, due to the strong wind and waves, rescue work cannot be carried out. Currently, sand has partially covered the cargo ship. Pho Quang Border Guard Station is contacting a specialized unit in Dung Quat ( Quang Ngai ) to survey the situation. When the weather is stable, the ship will be salvaged and towed to a repair facility.
