Accordingly, along National Highway 24, dozens of large and small landslides appeared, causing difficulties for traffic. Some severe landslides such as Km 72 + 920, Km 75 + 850, Km 76 + 950, Km 99 + 350, Km 109 + 800, Km 112 + 200, with the volume of soil and rock spilled onto the road surface up to hundreds of cubic meters.
“Of the 28 damaged locations, there are 27 positive slope landslides and 1 road crack. Currently, Kon Tum Traffic Construction and Management Joint Stock Company has arranged 2 excavators, 3 cars and 1 loader to handle the landslides, helping to keep traffic flowing. After the rain stops, the functional units will design and supplement to complete the landslide locations,” added Mr. Do Minh Son.
According to observations by VNA reporters, the two most dangerous and landslide-prone locations are Km 99 + 350 and Km 112 + 900. Mr. Do Minh Son said that at Km 99 + 350 alone, the amount of rock and soil that has slid down to the road surface is about 9,000 m3; meanwhile, at Km 112 + 900, the amount of rock and soil at risk of sliding down from the top of the hill is up to about 100,000 m3. Currently, at Km 112 + 900, the landslide has also caused severe damage to the road surface, and the embankment has also been pushed down to the road surface by rock and soil.

At Km 76 + 950, the road cracked, the road surface on the negative slope was eroded more than 1m deep, causing vehicles to only be able to travel in one direction. The authorities have started pouring rocks to fix it, however, because it is still raining, the repair work has not been implemented.
“Currently, the repair work is facing many difficulties due to the rainy weather and the risk of landslides still exists. The authorities have arranged officers at key locations to regulate traffic, helping vehicles pass through this route smoothly, before the landslides and road cracks are thoroughly handled,” Mr. Do Minh Son informed.
National Highway 24 is a vital route connecting the East and West of Quang Ngai province, through Violak Pass. If this route is cut off, it will greatly affect the province's trade activities. Currently, the authorities have also advised vehicles to limit passing Violak Pass to avoid unfortunate accidents.
