On the evening of January 21 in Hanoi , Thai Thuy Linh introduced album vol.5 Golden Jazz with a personal mini show.
The female singer breathes new life into classic bolero songs, combining soaring and modern jazz melodies, making the audience both nostalgic and fascinated with her unique, emotional performance.
Sharing at the event, Thai Thuy Linh confided that since she was little she had listened to bolero (also known as yellow music) through her father's small radio, with singers such as: Che Linh, Duy Khanh, Huong Lan. However, listening to yellow music since childhood did not make her love this genre. When she grew up, she loved the band Modern Talking, Boney M and their vibrant, bustling melodies.
“I listened to yellow music since I was little, but it was because my parents listened to it. I loved Western music, loved modern, vibrant music. I couldn’t understand why people sang so many sad songs,” she shared.
For a long time, Thai Thuy Linh admitted that she was prejudiced against yellow music. After more than 40 years of life, experiencing many ups and downs and loving many people, experiencing love affairs that made her "go up and down", Thai Thuy Linh finally truly understands yellow music.
“When I was young, I thought yellow music was sad. When I fell in love and suffered, I realized that yellow music is not sad, it is just true to life. The lines that seem like laments are actually very subtle truths that young people have not yet reached,” the female singer confided.
From those experiences, she began to listen to songs that she once found “corny”, but now felt them with more depth. Every word in the golden music contained life’s sorrow and subtlety, making her smile. Besides, this album is also her way of expressing gratitude for her childhood memories with her father and the feelings she experienced.
In the minishow, Thai Thuy Linh performed many songs associated with the memories of many generations such as: Sunset Train, Lonely Love, Wandering, Night Hamlet, Love Sea... works included in the album vol.5 Jazz Vang.
She performed with the saxophone of artist Quyen Thien Dac and the improvisational accompaniment of musician Nguyen Quang, who also served as the music production director of the Golden Jazz album, creating an emotional musical space.
Meritorious Artist Hong Lien also expressed her interest in Thai Thuy Linh's performance: "I have heard many people sing this genre of music, but this is the first time I see Linh bring a new style, making people remember the years of youth and love."
At the event, Thai Thuy Linh admitted that she is very much in love with the current version of herself. “In the past, I had to learn to accept the mistakes, the betrayals, the hurts that came to me, to not hate, to be at peace , and then learn to be grateful.
Now, I don’t have to study anymore, but I really feel that way. I am grateful for the past, because those are the things that should happen, giving me lessons, experiences and reflections. Sometimes looking back, I still find it interesting,” the singer said.
She also shared her views on her current life: “I no longer worry or get impatient about age, appearance, love affairs, beauty care or weight. I only care about health, because when I am healthy, I can do everything I like: sing, play, wade through streams, climb mountains… all are wonderful.”
Singer Thai Thuy Linh (born 1981) became famous after the Sao Mai contest in 2004. On stage, she always appeared with a powerful voice, a unique and confident performing style and a distinctive rock mark.
Besides singing, Thuy Linh is also recognized for her charity and dedication to the disadvantaged.
