Despite their completely unfavorable head-to-head record, Burnley started the game significantly better. In the opening minutes, Loum Tchaouna and Jaidon Anthony created three dangerous chances for the away team, but all three were promptly intercepted by Chelsea's defense.
On the other hand, coach Enzo Maresca's team appeared slow in their attack. During the first half hour, Pedro Neto's blocked shot was a rare highlight for The Blues as they could barely penetrate the Burnley penalty area.

Trevoh Chalobah was the first to hit the target, but goalkeeper Martin Dubravka easily saved it. It wasn't until the end of the first half that Chelsea really made a difference. Kyle Walker saved Burnley by blocking Jamie Gittens' shot, but then Gittens himself provided the assist. His pinpoint pass allowed Neto to head in the opener in the 37th minute.
In the second half, Chelsea played more proactively and dangerously, although still lacking in innovation. Gittens almost doubled the gap with a deflected shot that went close to the post, before Pedro Neto hit the woodwork in the 60th minute.
Burnley tried to respond, with Zian Flemming volleying into the box, prompting manager Scott Parker to make three changes. However, the changes did not improve the home side's attacking ability, as they continued to be stuck by Chelsea's well-organised defence.
While Burnley were busy searching for an equalizer, Chelsea launched a finishing blow in the final minutes. In the 88th minute, Marc Guiu accelerated past the defender before crossing for Enzo Fernández to tap the ball into an empty net, sealing a 2-0 victory.

The defeat leaves Burnley bottom of the table and in serious danger of relegation. For Chelsea, the win is seen as the perfect warm-up before a tough week of matches when they face Barcelona and Arsenal respectively.
