The head of the IAEA held talks with Chairman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami on the morning of November 14 and attended a joint press conference.

Earlier, on November 11, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said that Mr. Grossi will meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi during the two-day visit.

The head of the IAEA has been trying to get Iran to cooperate in monitoring nuclear facilities. However, these efforts have not achieved much results and with the return of US President-elect Donald Trump, analysts say Washington will restore the policy of maximum pressure on Iran.

Iran signed the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with world powers in July 2015 in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. However, the US withdrew from the deal in May 2018, reimposing sanctions and forcing Iran to scale back some of its nuclear commitments.
