From March 16 to April 15, 2025, the entire industry presided over and coordinated the detection of 16 cases, involving 27 subjects.

Positive Signals Amid Short-Term Volatility

In April 2025, the total value of Vietnam's import and export of goods reached 74.31 billion USD, down slightly by 1.4% (equivalent to 1.06 billion USD) compared to the previous month. Of which, exports recorded 37.44 billion USD (down 2.8%) and imports reached 36.87 billion USD, equivalent to the level of March 2025.

Although down slightly from the previous month, the overall picture still shows positive signs compared to the same period in 2024. In the first four months of the year, the total import-export turnover reached 276.89 billion USD, up 15.7% over the same period, or an increase of 37.51 billion USD. Of which, exports reached 140.34 billion USD (up 13%) and imports reached 136.55 billion USD (up 18.6%).

Thus, the trade balance in April recorded a surplus of 0.57 billion USD, much lower than the 1.64 billion USD of the previous month. For the whole 4 months, the trade surplus reached 3.8 billion USD, down 58.2% compared to the same period last year. However, this figure still reflects the continued improvement in the production and export capacity of the economy , especially in the context of many uncertainties in the global economy.

Resolutely fight against smuggling and trade fraud in the context of increasingly sophisticated tricks

The fight against smuggling and trade fraud remains a tense front in April 2025. The Customs Department said that violations are very complicated, especially on sea routes - accounting for 52.8% of detected, arrested and handled cases.

Violators often take advantage of the openness of trade policies, the rapid development of e-commerce, express delivery services and consignment of goods to commit smuggling. Not only that, the violation methods are becoming more and more sophisticated, such as false declaration of goods name, code, origin or customs value to evade taxes or legalize smuggled goods.

In addition to sea routes, road and air routes have also recorded many notable incidents. Illegal transportation of drugs, currency, and gold by air has shown signs of increasing, while the trade of goods without invoices, especially frozen foods, cigarettes, and consumer goods, is still persistent in the border areas of Vietnam - China, Vietnam - Laos, and Vietnam - Cambodia.

In April 2025, the entire Customs force nationwide detected, arrested and handled 1,330 violations, with an estimated value of goods of VND 1,867 billion, down 5.2% compared to the previous month. The total state budget revenue from this work reached VND 65.86 billion. Regarding criminal proceedings, the number of cases transferred for prosecution decreased from 15 to 12 (down 20%).

As of April 14, 2025, in the first 4 months of the year, the number of detected violations was 5,206 cases, the value of goods was estimated at more than 10,331 billion VND. The budget revenue from handling violations was approximately 347.16 billion VND. Although there were no prosecutions, 34 cases were transferred to the investigation agency for consideration according to the law.

In the field of drug prevention and control, the Customs force continues to coordinate closely with the Police and Border Guard. From March 16 to April 15, 2025, the entire sector presided over and coordinated the detection of 16 cases, involving 27 subjects. Of which, the Customs agency presided over 9 cases, the Police 5 cases, and the Border Guard 2 cases.

Evidence seized during the month included: 1,517 kg of various drugs, including: 32.8 kg of cannabis, 3.7 kg of heroin, 1.86 kg of cocaine, 1,407 kg of ketamine, 72.4 kg of synthetic drugs (MTTH) and 1,599 synthetic drug pills.

In the past 4 months, the authorities have handled 64 cases with 74 subjects. The amount of drugs seized was up to 1,719 kg. Including: 401.7 grams of opium, 66.8 kg of marijuana, 14.8 kg of heroin, 1.8 kg of cocaine, 1,420 kg of ketamine, 214 kg of MTTH, 1,599 MTTH pills and 60,000 other drug pills.
