To participate in the final match of the 2023 World Carom Billiards 3-Cushion Championship, Bao Phuong Vinh defeated "prodigy" Cho Myung Woo (Korea) in the semi-finals with a score of 50-48, while Tran Quyet Chien won against the home team, reigning world champion Tayfun Tasdemir with a score of 50-47 after 32 rounds.
The World Championship final is an internal battle between two Vietnamese players.
This is only the second time in the tournament’s 75-year history that the final has been an “internal” battle between opponents from the same country. In 2017, Belgians Frederic Caudron and Eddy Merckx reached the final, and now two Vietnamese players are following suit.
For the first time, Vietnamese Billiards had a representative in the final match of the World Championship, not just one but two players, a great honor and also a recognition of the progress of Vietnamese 3-cushion carom after the Porto World Cup championship in July 2023 by Tran Quyet Chien himself.
Tran Quyet Chien was under psychological pressure so he played below his ability.
Back to the internal final match between two Vietnamese players... The desire to win the only title missing from his massive collection of achievements seems to have affected the competitive mentality of veteran player Tran Quyet Chien even though he had more time to rest and recover and his ranking was much higher than Bao Phuong Vinh's.

He even took the lead back to 21-20 thanks to a 6-point series in the 13th turn. In the second half, Bao Phuong Vinh scored 3 consecutive points to widen the gap to 34-22 and the player born in 1995 played extremely well compared to his veteran senior.
Each stroke surely brought Bao Phuong Vinh to victory.
At the 26th turn, while Quyet Chien did not have the best playing feeling and continuously missed shots, Phuong Vinh continued to widen the gap to 44-31.
The advantage was clearly in favor of Bao Phuong Vinh and in turn 33, he scored the last three points to complete the match with a score of 50-34, winning the overall victory and becoming the 2023 World Championship champion. The historic No. 1 position for Vietnamese 3-cushion carom billiards.

Winning the world championship in Turkey, Bao Phuong Vinh received a bonus of 20,000 euros, certainly significantly improving his ranking on the UMB (Union Mondiale de Billard) rankings.
