On the morning of June 1, Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics held a graduation ceremony for 1,208 practical bachelors and practical engineers. At the ceremony, many people were surprised by the journey of studying hard and the mature thoughts of the female valedictorian.
Student Phan Hoang Anh Thu, majoring in accounting, graduated with honors. Thu is also the first student of the school to have a perfect cumulative score.
As an excellent student for many years at Long Thoi High School (Nha Be District), Nguyen Hoang Anh Thu passed her first choice university entrance exam, majoring in accounting at Saigon University - this is also Thu's dream major.
The joy did not last long, the female student had to make a difficult decision. Thu confided: "I know that my academic ability can go to university, but the financial aspect will put a burden on my family. That is why I chose to study accounting in college, although it is a bit disadvantageous, it will balance both my studies and my family's finances."
At the graduation ceremony, Thu confidently walked onto the stage wearing her bachelor's gown. Thu was the first female valedictorian of the school to graduate with a perfect score.
Unable to contain her emotions, the female student said that her time at school had helped her change many thoughts. Thu believes that in misfortune there is luck, although she did not go to university, Thu still had many "benefits". Studying at college helped Thu approach reality early, equip herself with many skills and gradually become more confident.
Thu said that every day she had to take the bus to school, and in the evening she studied more and helped her family. Thu did not work because she wanted to focus on her studies, and thanks to that, she received a scholarship from the school for four consecutive semesters.
Valedictorian sends thanks to teachers, family and friends
The new valedictorian modestly said: "Besides my own efforts, it is mostly due to the dedicated guidance of my teachers at school. The teachers guided me step by step, clearly and easily. Especially, in the curriculum I had a lot of practice. Thanks to that, the internship process was also very favorable."
After graduating, Thu did not immediately transfer to university but instead looked for a stable job near home. Smiling gently, Thu continued: "Currently, my family's economy is not very stable so I want to work first. After that, I will save some more money and continue studying, I still really want to study more."
Master Tran Van Tu, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics, said that this time, graduation certificates were awarded to 1,208 practical bachelors and practical engineers.
"Although this diploma is not everything, it is certainly an extremely important beginning and it proves a process of conquering knowledge, practicing skills, and attitudes to serve your future life. Without it, we will have difficulties in establishing ourselves and our careers later on. Now, you should reconsider your choice, with the efforts of the past two years, and you will see that it was the right thing to do" - Master Tu advised.
