According to Professor Tran Van Tho, to escape the middle-income trap and develop into a high-income advanced country, it is necessary to continuously increase productivity at a high rate. Meanwhile, there are two groups of problems that prevent Vietnam's productivity from increasing strongly.

The first group is related to industrialization. Vietnam is deeply integrated into global value chains but the quality of integration is low. The more Vietnam exports industrial goods, the more intermediate products it imports, resulting in a decreasing proportion of domestic value added.
Vietnam’s position in the global supply chain appears to be that of a processing and assembly workshop. Low industrialization and the processing and assembly nature are the causes of the low productivity of this region.

The second group of problems that cause low labor productivity is the weakness of the private economic sector. These enterprises have difficulty in borrowing investment capital and have to face many complicated administrative procedures. Most of them depend on their own capital or informal capital sources. Therefore, enterprises cannot grow.

From reality, Professor Tran Van Tho gives some policy suggestions to promote Vietnam's economy to achieve development goals by 2045.

On this occasion, Professor Tran Van Tho also introduced the newly published book “Memories to the Future - Reflections on Culture,Education and the Development Path of Vietnam”. The book is over 500 pages thick, consisting of relatively light articles, not going into depth about expertise and often connecting with history and culture to easily convey the necessary messages.
