Phong Thu ward residents bring obstacles to Provincial Road 9 to block vehicles.

On the morning of June 4, dozens of households in Khanh My residential group, Phong Thu ward brought obstacles and marched to Provincial Road 9 to block vehicles from traveling on the road.

Provincial Road 9 is the main road in the western part of the city connecting Cam Lo - La Son Expressway with National Highway 1A through Phong Dien town. In recent years, vehicles have been continuously traveling on the road, transporting soil and rocks from quarries, causing the road surface to deteriorate at many points. Currently, the traffic volume on Provincial Road 9 is very large, many vehicles have loads exceeding the load capacity of the road surface, causing damage to the road.

Mr. Truong Minh Phat, Chairman of Phong Thu Ward People's Committee, said that the locality has received information about the incident and is coordinating with relevant agencies to handle it.

For people living along both sides of Provincial Road 9, the frustration of blocking means of transport has occurred many times in 2024-2025. The ward has also coordinated with relevant parties many times, invited people to work and the units also committed to repairing the road surface to avoid damage. However, because the commitment was not implemented or not implemented thoroughly, it led to people being frustrated for a long time, and the road blocking recurred.

Traffic jam on Provincial Road 9

“This is a local problem and has gone beyond the authority. I hope that the relevant units will soon repair and upgrade the entire Provincial Road 9 to fundamentally solve the problem and create consensus among the people,” Mr. Phat added.

It is known that in April and May 2025, people have repeatedly brought obstacles to block the road, causing traffic jams. Up to now, the entire Provincial Road 9 (section passing through 15 households in Khanh My residential group) has been increasingly damaged, the largest damaged area is about 1.5m x 3m in size, traffic on this section of the road is very difficult, many traffic accidents have occurred due to the uneven road surface. People often block vehicles, causing the risk of traffic jams and disrupting security and order in the area.
