Street vendors... "waiting for customers" |
"Sand" still remains
On the occasion of the April 30 - May 1 holiday, some tourists reported that the parking fee at Thuan An beach was higher than the listed price. Although the parking service price list clearly stated that the fee for motorbikes before 10pm was 2,000 VND, this guest still had to pay 7,000 VND. When asked about the price, the parking attendant replied: "I don't know which parking lot, but we have been charging that price here for a long time."
Another guest also said that when he parked his car near the beach, the parking attendant came to write a ticket and collected 15,000 VND. After paying in advance for parking and finishing his shower, he saw the price list clearly stating 12,000 VND. Although he was not satisfied, he had to accept it because he thought the attendant had charged the correct fee and did not want to waste time arguing.
The story of parking fees also happened at a recent event, on the night of April 29, when the Hue - Culinary Capital program opened, some visitors said that the ticket prices were inconsistent. The area in front of Thuong Bac Park became the parking lot for the event, but some people charged 5,000 VND, while others charged 10,000 VND for one parking. Although there was no immediate reaction, visitors felt indignant and posted the story on social media.
The problem of parking fees is just one of the "sand grains" that are affecting the tourism environment. Many times I have encountered the situation of street vendors soliciting tourists. In the area near the parking lot near Hue Imperial City, when seeing tourists just getting off the bus, a group of people rushed over to offer to buy hats and fans. Although the tourists politely refused, they still insisted, making the tourists feel uncomfortable. There were 3-4 people surrounding, selling the same item, so even if tourists wanted to support, it was difficult for them to choose because buying for one person would "displease" the other.
A few months ago, when I went to the tofu stall in front of Thien Mu Pagoda, I "again" witnessed the scene of arguing and fighting for customers between vendors. Seeing me raise my camera to take pictures, they spoke up: "If there is anything that is not beautiful or not good, please do not post it online so that we can do business", a woman selling here told me.
Hue is considered a safe and friendly destination and compared to the previous period, tourism problems have been better controlled, but it is still not possible to completely eliminate the negative points to create the highest satisfaction for tourists. Mr. Huynh Thanh Minh from Quang Nam shared: "Many times traveling to Hue, what makes me dissatisfied is that there are still beggars, street vendors, and karaoke speakers standing and singing in front of restaurants and shops. I know they make a living, but a tourist city should not let it be like that, affecting visitors."
There will be a "team" to handle it.
Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoa, Chief Inspector of the Department of Tourism, said that since the beginning of the year, the Department has conducted many inspections of the tourism environment, discovered, handled, and corrected, especially the fact that some businesses do not publicly list prices. Although the local government and the tourism industry have directed very strongly, the Department Inspectorate, the police and related forces have made great efforts, to thoroughly resolve the problems in the tourism environment, it still requires the cooperation of many levels and sectors, especially the need for better awareness of the people, business households, and tourism workers.
The tourism industry is coordinating with relevant units to carry out parallel work to support tourists and handle tourism problems. Regarding tourist support, the local tourism industry has also announced a hotline to receive information, feedback and support tourists (0234.3828288), and has a department to directly support and advise tourists at the Tourism Promotion Information Center. Issues affecting the tourism environment and causing frustration for tourists are also received and handled. In addition, at Chan May port, in October 2024, the Department of Tourism and Chan May Port Joint Stock Company also put into operation the Tourist Information and Support Center. Cruise ship passengers in need of advice and support can also contact as soon as the ship arrives at the port.
According to Mr. Hoang Phuoc Nhat, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism, implementing the direction of the Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, the Department of Tourism is coordinating with the Department of Culture and Sports, the City Police, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and relevant localities and units to research, develop and complete a project on establishing a city-level interdisciplinary team to handle tourism environmental problems. It is expected that this June, the team/team to handle tourism environmental problems will go into pilot operation.
In addition, to strengthen the management of the tourism environment, ensure security and safety for tourists according to the requirements of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the People's Committee of Hue City, the tourism industry coordinates with relevant departments, branches, localities and units to focus on propaganda, dissemination and guidance for businesses and tourism service establishments to publicly list prices, sell at the right price and ensure the correct quantity, quality and weight of goods and services for tourists; do not solicit, stalk, oppress or defraud tourists. Focus on ensuring environmental hygiene in business areas; ensure food hygiene and safety, security and safety for tourists...
