Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Ho Duc Viet - Member of the Provincial Youth Union, Secretary of Vinh City Youth Union emphasized that the Dai Thang Flagpole project is a historical witness of Nghe An people on the great victory day of Spring April 30, 1975.
The project was planned by the Nghe An Trade Union Federation (now the Nghe An Provincial Labor Federation) from April 20, 1975 after receiving news confirming that our army would certainly liberate the South and unify the country in the next few days.

To complete the project, the Vinh Power Plant's Trade Union was assigned to prepare to erect a 12m high iron flagpole at the highest point on Quyet Mountain; the Industrial Garment Factory at Vinh Market intersection was assigned to sew two large flags, 4m long and 3m wide, to hang on the flagpole.
Since the country's reunification, Dai Thang flagpole still stands proudly at the southernmost point of Nghe An, on Quyet mountain on the bank of Lam river.

However, after nearly 50 years of withstanding harsh weather, the flagpole has shown obvious deterioration.
Faced with that situation, the Vinh City Youth Union Standing Committee undertook to restore the flagpole to its original state. At the same time, an inauguration ceremony was held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
This youth project not only contributes to beautifying the landscape and educating revolutionary traditions, but is also a vivid demonstration of the spirit of "Where there is a need, there is youth, where there is difficulty, there is youth" of the city's youth.
