A wooden stick pierced through the chest nearly a hand span, a young man miraculously escaped death

A young man in Quang Binh was stabbed by a large wooden stick that penetrated his left chest 20cm deep. Luckily, he was rescued in time.

On May 15, the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi announced that it had just saved the life of a young man in critical condition after being stabbed in the chest with a large wooden stick.

Previously, Mr. NTL (20 years old, residing in Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province) was hospitalized with multiple injuries, especially a wooden stick stabbed about 20cm (nearly 1 hand span) deep into the left chest.

Mr. L's family said that while driving his motorbike at night, Mr. L. unfortunately lost control and crashed into a roadside fence, getting stabbed in the chest by a large wooden bar.

After being admitted, Mr. L. was ordered to have a CT scan and screening tests. The results showed that the wooden bar had penetrated the left chest area by about 20cm, damaging part of the lung causing a pneumothorax, penetrating the diaphragm, pressing on the spleen and breaking 5 ribs on the left side.

After interdisciplinary consultation, the patient was indicated for emergency thoraco-abdominal surgery.

Doctors removed the wooden bar, washed to remove foreign objects in the chest, and connected and sutured the damaged organs to create an open wound.

The patient is currently recovering well after surgery.
