Thanh Hoa: Proposal to add 25,000 doses of diphtheria vaccine

On August 12, before Thanh Hoa province announced a diphtheria epidemic in Muong Lat town, the Department of Preventive Medicine ( Ministry of Health ) urgently sent a dispatch requesting the Director of the Department of Health of Thanh Hoa province to direct medical units in the area to strictly implement the Prime Minister's instructions in Official Dispatch No. 68/CD-TTg dated July 13 on strengthening diphtheria prevention; urgently review cases in close contact with diphtheria cases; monitor and promptly detect suspected cases in the outbreak and in the community; take samples, test to identify cases and promptly deploy medical isolation measures, handle the outbreak and provide prophylactic antibiotics for all close contacts. On August 11, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province announced a diphtheria epidemic in Muong Lat town after 3 cases of diphtheria were recorded in this locality. On the afternoon of August 12, Ms. Ha Thi Phuc, Director of Muong Lat District Medical Center (Thanh Hoa province), said that the unit had just proposed to the competent authority to add 25,000 doses of tetanus-diphtheria adsorbed vaccine to vaccinate subjects at risk and high risk of diphtheria in Muong Lat town and 3 neighboring communes.
