Establishment of Institute for Research and Application of Artificial Intelligence

On October 24, 2024, Hanoi University of Science and Technology held the Establishment and Launching Ceremony of the Institute for Research and Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI4Life). AI4Life was established to become a connecting point for academic research and practical application of universities and businesses, maximizing the benefits of artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Quyet Thang - Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology said that in recent years, artificial intelligence has made great strides, widely applied in all professions and aspects of life. In particular, the birth of ChatGPT and large language models has further expanded the popularity of artificial intelligence to all classes of people. Realizing the importance of interdisciplinary research and application of artificial intelligence, in June 2024, the Chairman of the Council of Hanoi University of Science and Technology signed a resolution to establish AI4Life. AI4Life was established as the first specialized unit in the country focusing on interdisciplinary research and application of artificial intelligence, so that research is no longer limited to information technology but will be spread across many industries and fields. AI4Life promises to help connect and promote cooperation between research groups in many different fields at home and abroad, especially strong research groups in the world. This will help create interdisciplinary research and application solutions for artificial intelligence, implementing the policy of developing artificial intelligence for life. AI4LIFE has 6 laboratories, including: machine learning, smart semiconductor technology, smart life science, smart environment, smart systems, smart education. AI4LIFE aims to establish at least one strong research group by 2030 and become one of the leading innovation centers, developing AI solutions and applications in Vietnam, contributing to making Hanoi University of Science and Technology a leading research and training institution on artificial intelligence in the ASEAN region. Speaking at the establishment ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy believed that AI4LIFE will become one of the country's innovation centers, connecting and applying research results to solve problems in life. Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc expects the establishment of AI4LIFE - the first applied research institute in this field in the country - to be a connecting point, helping to connect and promote cooperation between research groups in many different fields in Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The institute also promotes cooperation with strong research groups in the world, thereby creating interdisciplinary research and application solutions for artificial intelligence and implementing the policy of researching and developing artificial intelligence for life./.
