Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh's family (Hiep Xuong commune, Phu Tan district) has 6 children, and their circumstances are difficult, so they all work far from home. The children also have their own families, and take turns sending small amounts of money to their grandparents to cover expenses. They have not dared to think about renovating the dilapidated wooden stilt house for many years. When the local authorities considered supporting them to build a new house, Mr. Tinh was moved: "I am 65 years old, have many illnesses, my eyes are blurry and I have had 2 surgeries. The old house looked up at the broken corrugated iron roof, looked down at the rotten wooden floor, I did not expect to have a new, tall, and sturdy house today."
During the process of rebuilding Mr. Tinh's house, Hiep Xuong Commune Youth Union participated in dismantling, transporting materials, and building a new house very urgently. Mr. Nguyen Phuoc An (Secretary of the Commune Youth Union) said that thanks to the large force and smooth coordination, it only took 1 day to rebuild. Everyone was busy with work, but when mobilized, they all arranged to contribute to the project. Each session, 8-9 union members coordinated with uncles and aunts to build charity houses, helping to speed up the progress of completing the house compared to the plan. By this cooperation, the whole commune gave 7 houses to poor and near-poor households.
Youth Union members participate in building houses for poor households
In other localities, the Youth Union at all levels mobilized social resources, established shock troops, and contributed labor to support the construction and repair of houses for poor households, near-poor households, and meritorious households to soon have solid and spacious homes. According to Deputy Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Youth Union Do Minh Sang, up to now, the Youth Union system in the whole province has mobilized and built 43 new houses and repaired 7 houses, with a total project value of more than 2.6 billion VND. The projects and tasks attracted the participation of more than 700 young union members, with more than 9,000 working days.
That achievement comes from the determination and pioneering spirit of the youth. After the province's launch, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee built an implementation plan, mobilizing union members, association members, and young people to participate in the movement with the spirit of "those who have little help little, those who have much help much, those who have property help property, those who have merit help merit". Thereby, promoting the strength of the entire Youth Union organization system, union members, youth, children, and all classes of people. "The Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee called on and mobilized young union members to support at least 1 day's salary or 1 day's income. In addition, calling on organizations, businesses, and philanthropists inside and outside the province to accompany and support the implementation of this humane program" - Mr. Do Minh Sang shared.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh's house has been completed.
The Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has requested district, town, city and affiliated youth unions to propagate on social networks and media of the Youth Union about the purpose, meaning and objectives of the program; to spread typical examples and beautiful stories through images and media products during the process of the Youth Union and people participating in the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses. Youth volunteer teams coordinate with localities to contribute working days to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, ensuring safety, quality, suitability with conditions, characteristics, cultural identity, customs and practices of the people and the right beneficiaries.
The entire Youth Union and Youth Union system in the province has promoted a high sense of responsibility, working together to complete the projects. Each new house built means that one more poor household has a stable home.
