The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens will lease any land used for production and business purposes; the City People's Committee will recalculate the land for public purposes accordingly and can be transferred without calculating land rent.

After adjusting the land lease decision, it will be transferred to the Tax Department to have a basis for recalculation.

Regarding the public's concern that Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden will close, the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City affirmed that this is not the case.

“We should not worry in advance, do not make things complicated… Problems will always arise and when they arise, there will be a way to resolve them,” said Mr. Phan Van Mai.

As reported by VietNamNet, with an annual land rent of more than 163 billion VND, up to now, the management unit of Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens owes more than 800 billion VND in taxes. Faced with tax enforcement, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens is at risk of ceasing operations.

Specifically, according to the announcement of the District 1 Tax Department, the tax debt of Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden Company Limited as of October 31 is more than 846 billion VND. Of which, 787 billion is the overdue tax debt that must be enforced.

Director of Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Vu Thi Huong Giang, said that the Zoo and Botanical Gardens is a non-profit enterprise.

According to Ms. Giang, the land area rented from 2014 until now is still completely suitable for the function of the facility, with only 5,590 m2, or about 3.5% of the total area, used for service business purposes.

The remaining areas are reserved for public activities such as barn construction, park landscaping and public services.
