Drivers pay fees at the 2903V Motor Vehicle Inspection Center, Hanoi, March 1. |
If the vehicle owner's vehicle type is accepted for an extended inspection period, a notification will be displayed on the application and a certificate will be issued.
Regarding concerns about how to pay road maintenance fees for vehicles with automatically extended cycles, a representative of the Vietnam Register said that when people bring their vehicles to the inspection center according to the new cycle, the inspection unit will collect the road maintenance fees that must be paid during the 6-month extension.
Or if time permits, the vehicle owner can go to the inspection unit to pay the road maintenance fee for the extended inspection period. This is entirely up to the vehicle owner's wishes.
The Vietnam Register said that from June 3 to 3:00 p.m. on June 4, the lookup system received about 5 million visits, 3.6 times the number of vehicles subject to automatic extension of inspection cycles. The management software system will gradually update in order of priority for vehicles due (within 10 days). Therefore, vehicle owners should only look up when their vehicle is about to expire inspection, to avoid overloading the system.
According to Circular No. 02/2023 of the Ministry of Transport, passenger vehicles with less than 9 seats that are not used for transportation business and are manufactured up to 7 years ago are exempt from registration for 36 months (previously 30 months), the periodic inspection cycle is 24 months (an increase of 6 months compared to before); vehicles manufactured from 7 to 20 years ago (previously 12 years ago) have a periodic inspection cycle of 12 months; vehicles over 20 years old have a cycle of 6 months.
When the registration expires, owners of vehicles with up to 9 seats that are not used for transportation business will have their registration period automatically extended, according to Circular 08 dated June 2. The issuance of the two circulars aims to resolve the situation of vehicles queuing up to wait, after a series of registration centers were investigated by the police for violations and had to stop operating.
