Within the framework of the official visit to Russia and participation in the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, on the evening of May 9 (local time), under the witness of General Secretary To Lam, Vietnam Airlines held a ceremony to announce the direct flight route between Hanoi and Moscow, aiming to continue to expand the door of trade and exchange between Vietnam and the Russian Federation by air, while contributing to tightening the bridge of trust between the two countries.
The event marks a new step forward in the context of Vietnam and the Russian Federation expanding comprehensive cooperation in many fields, especially economics , trade, culture and people-to-people exchange. The resumption of direct flights between Hanoi and Moscow not only contributes to promoting trade exchange and tourism development, but also demonstrates a long-term commitment to strengthening strategic connectivity between the two countries.
Previously, on May 8, the inaugural flight VN63 took off from Noi Bai International Airport and landed safely at Sheremetyevo International Airport (Moscow) with 254 passengers, achieving a 100% occupancy rate.
On the morning of May 10, flight VN62 from Moscow to Hanoi will bring back 86 Vietnamese officers and soldiers who participated in the parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in Red Square. The presence of the Vietnamese delegation in the parade is of profound significance, not only honoring the close relationship between the two nations, but also the pride of the country when being present on such an important occasion of historical significance for the Russian people.
It is expected that within the framework of the Vietnam - Russia Business Forum co-organized by the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam and the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation in Moscow on May 11, Vietnam Airlines will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with four leading Russian tourism partners, including: Ammarus Tour, Mosturflot, AZIMUT Hotels and Union of Fairs and Congress. This activity contributes to promoting tourism cooperation between the two countries, increasing two-way tourist growth and effectively exploiting this direct flight route.
Currently, Vietnam Airlines operates the Hanoi - Moscow route with a frequency of 2 flights per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, using wide-body Boeing 787 aircraft and is expected to increase the frequency to 3 flights per week from July 2026.
The resumption of the Hanoi-Moscow direct flight is one of the strategic steps in Vietnam Airlines' international flight network expansion plan, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam Airlines Corporation (1995-2025). This is a testament to the airline's continuous efforts in promoting the country's image, enhancing the national position and fulfilling the mission of "Taking off with the nation" in the new era.
