Enterprises participating in developing OCOP products

In implementing the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program, the role of enterprises is becoming increasingly evident, not only in terms of production investment but also in the ability to organize, process and consume products according to the chain. In Phu Tho province, many enterprises have proactively participated in the OCOP program, contributing to the development of typical products and considering this a strategic direction in brand building and market expansion.

OCOP standard product lines of Maika Food Company Limited are displayed and introduced at trade promotion programs.

By the end of 2024, the province will have over 300 products and OCOP product groups with 3 stars or higher, with 220 participating entities. Of which, 31 OCOP product entities are enterprises. Notably, the whole province has 3 products achieving 5-star OCOP at the national level, including 2 products of enterprises, including Hoai Trung high-class tea - Hoai Trung Tea Company Limited (Chi Tien Commune, Thanh Ba District) and Thanh Ba purple bud tea - UT Tea Investment and Development Company Limited (Van Linh Commune, Thanh Ba District).

The direct participation of enterprises in the OCOP product value chain has created a strong shift from small-scale production to an organized commodity production model, with a product development strategy, improving quality, design, and traceability. Many enterprises have proactively linked with people to build stable raw material areas, apply science and technology to production, and focus on developing products with strong local identity.

Many businesses focus on investing in advanced processing technology, applying strict standards such as HACCP, ISO... to help control product quality in a consistent manner, from input materials to finished products. Not stopping at production, businesses also develop packaging design, build professional brand images, and convey the story and cultural identity of local products in an attractive way.

In the province, some traditional and typical product lines developed by enterprises following the OCOP direction have created brands such as: Hoai Trung tea, UT purple bud tea, Duc Ty tea, Truong Foods sour meat, Maika matcha tea...

Established in 2019, Maika Food Company Limited (Xuan Loc Commune, Thanh Thuy District) specializes in producing and processing matcha tea and freeze-dried fruits. Since its establishment, the Company has determined to develop a product line that meets quality standards, in a sustainable direction and especially associated with the OCOP Program. Therefore, by 2021, the Company had 2 product lines of Matcha milk tea, Matcha Maika tea achieving 4-star OCOP and currently the Company has many more product lines achieving OCOP.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - Director of the Company said: “By closely following the orientation of the province and district in the OCOP Program, the Company proactively builds profiles, strictly controls quality and improves product quality to qualify for OCOP assessment and ranking. OCOP is a great opportunity for small businesses like us to access standards on quality, packaging, and traceability. When OCOP products are recognized, the reputation of the business increases, consumers trust more, and products are more convenient to consume in both traditional distribution channels and on e-commerce platforms”.

However, the process of participating in OCOP product development also poses many new requirements for businesses. Businesses need to continue to meet the capacity for technological innovation, the ability to flexibly adapt to the market and strictly comply with regulations related to food hygiene and safety, intellectual property, environmental protection and sustainable development. Maintaining quality and upgrading the star rating of products after being recognized requires systematic, long-term investment, both in terms of resources and strategy.
