Drydocks World, a subsidiary of DP World Group (Dubai)
Drydocks World, a subsidiary of DP World (Dubai), and its four founding partners, Sefine Shipyard (Türkiye), Astilleros Shipyard Group (Spain), BREDO Dry Docks (Germany) and IMC Shipyard Services Group (based in Singapore, China and Thailand), have announced the formation of the Global Green Shipyard Alliance – GGSA.
GGSA was established at a landmark time for the ship repair industry, with the aim of accelerating the adoption of green technology and developing a unified approach to environmental performance across the industry.
“Through a scalable platform of knowledge sharing, collaborative development and innovation, GGSA aims to provide practical solutions – from hybrid propulsion systems, energy-efficient ship conversions, to digital optimization and ensuring emissions compliance,” – the alliance’s joint statement said.
According to Captain Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, the establishment of GGSA reflects the industry-wide commitment to green transformation and marks an important step forward in the ship repair and conversion sector.
“The creation of GGSA represents our shared responsibility to accelerate decarbonization of the maritime industry,” Antolovic stressed.
Drydocks World expands engineering footprint to serve offshore energy industry
In parallel with its founding of GGSA, Drydocks World is also undertaking a major expansion plan at the South Yard site to accommodate more complex engineering projects in the offshore energy sector.
The 75,000 m² South Yard increases the plant's manufacturing space by 40%, including a 250-metre long quay and a 37,000-tonne load-out facility.
The expansion project also includes new crane systems, upgraded engineering workshops, and plans to expand Berth 10 to improve overall operational capacity.
Notably, Drydocks World will commission a floating crane capable of lifting loads of up to 5,000 tonnes, which will be operational by mid-2026. This crane can lift cargo up to 120 metres above water, with a 600-tonne fly jib allowing it to reach up to 180 metres – a huge advantage in offshore projects.
