At the 2025 Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Tournament that just ended in Da Nang , tennis player Le Dinh Duc was an extremely interesting surprise.

In the men's team final, Le Dinh Duc's brilliant 3-0 victory over his senior Nguyen Anh Tu gave Ta Hong Khanh great confidence, who then easily defeated Do Tuan Kiet, helping the CAND T&T table tennis team win the men's team championship.

Shocking incident makes Le Dinh Duc think he has to leave table tennis

Perhaps not many people know that Le Dinh Duc's journey to the top of the game was a journey filled with sweat and tears, with an incident that seemed to have ended the dream of the 1999-born tennis player from Dak Nong .

In 2009, Le Dinh Duc was discovered by coach Vu Manh Cuong at the Da Nang youth tournament and brought to the Hanoi T&T training center.

Duc carried within him the aspiration, faith and determination of a mountain boy, eager to rise up with his passion for small football. However, when the dream was ahead, an incident occurred in 2013: Duc's limbs suddenly shriveled up, and he could no longer walk. He went from one hospital to another, hoping then disappointed, because the disease could not be found.

Until meeting Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa at Bach Mai Hospital, Duc was diagnosed with severe juvenile idiopathic ankylosing spondylitis - a disease that can take away the ability to move, leaving a life of disability if not treated promptly.

After coach Vu Manh Cuong reported about Le Dinh Duc's condition, without a moment's hesitation, Mr. Hien decided: "By all means, Duc must be treated. Even if Duc cannot compete in the future, we must help him walk and live like a normal person."

Three long years – a difficult journey, not only for Duc, but also for the entire coaching staff of Hanoi T&T Table Tennis Club.

Coach Vu Manh Cuong and his teammates took turns carrying Duc from the first floor to the fifth floor of Bach Mai Hospital for treatment. Each tube of medicine used to treat Duc at that time cost more than 20 million VND. The first 5 tubes of medicine were infused, and Duc responded well.

But on the 6th tube of medicine, Duc reacted, making the whole department worried. Luckily, everything was fine and it was all proof of the "heart" that Mr. Hien had planted in the people around him. With financial and spiritual support from Mr. Hien, from coach Vu Manh Cuong and the Hanoi T&T table tennis team, Duc began his journey to fight against fate.

Coping with adversity

Duc practiced walking step by step in pain, practiced recovering every smallest movement, and above all, he persevered with a strong belief: "I will return to the table tennis table. I will not give up this dream". Extraordinary determination is the unquenchable fire that helps Duc not only return to competition, but also overcome himself, becoming a source of inspiration for willpower for his teammates, juniors like Dinh Anh Hoang, Mai Ngoc at the Hanoi T&T table tennis center and now the CAND T&T table tennis club.

Duc's sweat, tears and will were fueled by the humanity, tolerance and kindness of Mr. Hien. Le Dinh Duc's story is a beautiful testament to Mr. Hien's heart - a sportsman who is responsible to people and the community.
