Việt NamViệt Nam07/08/2023

Schoolyard benches are a familiar image to those who are and have been students. With the aimof educating students about environmental protection and love for the sea and islands through vivid visual images, amateur “young artists” from different grades have given new, bright colors to the old stone benches in the schoolyard.

Stone benches are associated with the dreamy and beautiful school years of every student. Due to many years, the stone benches are old, some are cracked and ugly, many are new but do not attract students to sit and play. With the desire to create a lively and joyful space for students in the school grounds, with the advice of Ha Lang District Youth Union, the Board of Directors of Ha Lang High School and the students of the school have "breathed life" into the stone benches with many colors carrying meaningful messages.

Teacher Ly Thi Huyen, Secretary of the Youth Union of Ha Lang High School, shared: To carry out the youth project "schoolyard stone benches", the school's Youth Union came up with the idea of painting murals on stone benches. Currently, the whole school has 9 old stone benches. In the 2022-2023 school year, the school will have 5 new stone benches delivered to 3 classes for teachers and students to come up with ideas and implement. The school mobilized social funding worth more than 5 million VND.

The activity attracted many students and youth union members to participate.

Not only stopping at the purpose of decorating the school yard, through the activities, the school board wishes to integrate education on love for homeland, country, love for the sea and islands for students, thereby promoting their artistic talent and encouraging their creativity.

As one of the "young artists" who carried out the project, Hoang Thi Quynh Thi, class 11A1, always feels proud to contribute a small part to beautify the school she is attending. Quynh Thi confided: The painting that my friends and I made depicts the peaceful scenery of a sunflower hill. The difficulty in making this painting is how to mix the paint colors to clearly show the light and dark tones, creating a harmonious overall picture. We drew a sketch first, then got feedback from our teachers before we started. Each painting took us about 2 hours to complete.

Dressed in a new coat of paint, the stone benches stand out in the cool, shady space of the school. During recess, many students gather to “discuss” the colorful drawings, or simply sit together after stressful hours of studying.

The stone benches in the yard of Ha Lang High School were decorated by amateur “artists” from different grades with many bright, eye-catching colors and meaningful messages such as: “Protect the environment”, “Beautiful nature”, “Youth projects”, “Lifting dreams”…

To draw the picture “Let’s protect the environment”, Ha Thi Thu Hang and Nguyen Trung Kien, class 11A5, mixed many colors and had to use gasoline many times because the lines were not satisfactory. Trung Kien shared: Drawing on a stone bench is more difficult than on paper, not to mention having to use paint to draw, so the group members were still confused. After completing the picture, I felt very excited because I received the love of teachers and friends in the school, my friends also really appreciated and took care to protect the work on the stone bench, this is truly a memorable memory for me and my friends during the years sitting in school.

"Youth stone bench" project by union members and youth of Ha Lang High School.

The vivid paintings on the school benches not only make the school campus cleaner and more beautiful, but also create excitement and joy through the method of education using vivid, visual images. Help students immerse themselves in a colorful space, stimulate their imagination, and arouse their love for Fine Arts.

Not only stopping at Ha Lang High School, hopefully in the near future, the model of decorating schoolyard stone benches will continue to spread to other schools in the district and the whole province, attracting a large number of union members and team members to enthusiastically participate.
