Kabaddi competition reappears at Cau Ngu festival in Da Nang

On the morning of February 29, the People's Committee of Thanh Khe District, Da Nang City organized the Thanh Khe District Fishing Festival 2024, attracting hundreds of people to attend, everyone wishing for a new year of favorable weather, good wind, and catching lots of fish and shrimp.

From 6am, people gathered in large numbers at Ha Khe Sea Park (Xuan Ha Ward, Thanh Khe District, Da Nang City) to attend the traditional Cau Ngu festival.

This is an annual festival held to express gratitude to the sea gods and express the fishermen's wishes for a bountiful catch this year. Thanks to this, fishermen are confident to sail the sea, stick to the fishing grounds and head straight out to sea.

Previously, the Cau Ngu Festival in Da Nang city was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2016.

Thanh Khe District's Cau Ngu Festival in 2024 will be held from February 27 to February 29, with the main ceremony with many rituals held on February 29 (January 20 of the lunar calendar).

Ms. Le Ha Minh Tram, a resident of Xuan Ha ward, Thanh Khe district, shared: “I participated in singing Bai Choi at this year’s festival and found it very fun and interesting. I hope that this year the waves will be calm and the sea will be calm so that fishermen can go out to sea with peace of mind and stabilize their lives.”

The ceremony took place with many activities such as tug of war, basket weaving, net weaving, singing bai choi... Notably, this year there was also a kabaddi competition after many years of suspension due to the impact of the epidemic.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Cong, Vice Chairman of Thanh Khe District People's Committee said: "Cau Ngu Festival is one of the long-standing traditional festivals, a characteristic of the coastal community.

The ceremony of worshiping the Earth and Heaven wishes for favorable weather for fishermen at sea and to worship the fish god for a bountiful fishing season, a life of prosperity, happiness, peace and joy.

In addition, the ceremony also displayed OCOP booths and typical products from the sea, attracting many people and tourists to come and shop.
