Bulgaria is one of the countries with a long-standing and good traditional relationship with Vietnam, with a foundation of sustainable educational, cultural, political and diplomatic cooperation over many decades. The Bulgarian Government has clearly demonstrated its goodwill and support for the policy of expanding economic cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the fields of trade, technology and two-way investment.
The Bulgarian market is emerging in the Southeast European region with many new opportunities for trade and investment for Vietnamese enterprises. With its position as a gateway connecting Europe with Asia and the Middle East - Africa, Bulgaria plays an important role in transcontinental trade routes. In recent years, Bulgaria has been promoting investment in infrastructure - from seaports, roads, energy to telecommunications, contributing to improving regional and international connectivity.
In particular, Bulgaria has fully joined the Schengen Area since January 1, 2025, becoming a convenient transit point between Southeast Europe and the rest of the continent. Joining Schengen helps goods, services, and people from Bulgaria easily access the entire European Union (EU) market, significantly reducing logistics time and costs.

In addition, Bulgaria also has a number of outstanding strengths, very suitable for Vietnam to consider promoting cooperation such as technology and industry, startups, innovation, agriculture , food, etc. Bulgaria is strongly developing the fields of information technology, software, electronics technology, environmental technology and energy.
Notably, software centers in Bulgaria are now providing services to large corporations in the UK, Germany, and the US. Many innovations in energy storage, waste treatment, and automation technologies are being tested and applied here.
Bulgaria is gradually becoming a “promised land” for startups thanks to its favorable legal environment, low costs and high-quality human resources; it is considered by the EU as a potential destination for innovative investors. Many ideas have been realized into specific products, with high applicability and good export.
In terms of agriculture, with favorable climate and soil conditions, Bulgaria is a place that produces many typical agricultural products such as corn, wheat, cooking oil, sunflower seeds, essential oils, wine, etc. These products are present in the Middle East, North Africa and many EU countries. This could be a potential field for Vietnam to link in the value chain of production, processing and export.
Partners in Bulgaria are always ready to cooperate in high-tech fields such as green technology, energy, automobiles, environmental treatment, etc.; develop a logistics system in Bulgaria in combination with Balkan countries, combine Eastern European road networks to transport goods to Europe at optimal costs; cooperate to establish factories and processing facilities in Bulgaria to take advantage of low costs, access the EU market faster and improve competitiveness in terms of price and delivery time, while also opening up opportunities to form a supply chain linking Vietnam and Europe.
Ambassador and Mr. Plamen Panchev, CEO of Trakia Industrial Complex. |
Previously, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet visited and worked with Mr. Plamen Panchev - CEO of Trakia Industrial Complex (TEZ), the largest industrial complex in Bulgaria. TEZ is one of the enterprises accompanying Bulgarian President Rumen Radev to visit Vietnam in November 2024, having the opportunity to witness and be impressed by Vietnam's dynamic economic development. Talking with the Ambassador, he personally wished to invite Vietnamese enterprises to explore cooperation and investment opportunities at TEZ.
TEZ was established in 1995, is one of the largest and sustainable industrial development projects in Bulgaria, making many important contributions to the development of Plovdiv (the second largest city in Bulgaria) and the whole country; has a total area of 10.7 million m2 (of which more than 3.25 million m2 have been used), including 6 main industrial parks Maritsa, Rakovski, Kuklen, Plovdiv Industrial Park, Innovation Park and Agrocenter Kaloyanovo; operates under the public-private partnership model (between local authorities and businesses).
The main industry groups include: (i) Industrial production (mechanics, electronics, high technology); (ii) Logistics and trade (developing modern logistics centers, including a joint transport project with Italy); (iii) Agriculture and food industry (organic agriculture, food processing); (iv) Green technology (renewable energy, hydrogen and biomethane).
TEZ's strengths are its strategic location, close to international transport corridors, convenient for transportation and logistics; developed infrastructure; quality human resources (nearly 70,000 employees) and preferential policies (corporate and personal income tax of only 10%, the lowest in the EU). TEZ is currently focusing on implementing its Sustainable Development Strategy, which aims to become the first carbon-neutral industrial zone in Europe with solar, green hydrogen and biomethane projects and attract an estimated investment of 4 billion euros for the C0TEZ Project on energy development.
