Last June, the temporary power outage in the province during hot days caused a sudden increase in demand for generators and rechargeable fans. The price of each type of rechargeable fan at that time was increased by sellers much higher than the actual price.
Some stores even announced that they were "out of stock" and did not have enough quantity to sell. Many customers had to order 5-10 days in advance to get the goods at a high price. With the mentality of being wary of a similar situation in 2024, at this time, many people have sought to buy rechargeable fans in the hope of getting a "soft" price.
Ms. Tran Thi Hoa, Dong Tam Ward, Vinh Yen City said: My family has 2 small children, so even though it is just the beginning of summer, I bought a rechargeable fan to prevent power outages. After consulting acquaintances and researching on the internet, I decided to buy a wide-blade fan, which after being fully charged can be used continuously for 6-8 hours, cool enough for the whole family for 1.6 million VND. I am afraid that if I do not buy it soon, if there is a power outage in the future, this item may "sell out" and the selling price will be pushed up.
Not only Ms. Hoa's family, in recent days, many households in all localities in the province have also been busy buying rechargeable fans of all kinds. According to the reporter's investigation, rechargeable fans sold in supermarkets and household electrical stores are mainly produced by domestic enterprises with many different sizes, with prices ranging from 700,000 VND to nearly 2 million VND/unit (depending on capacity and size).
Among them, the most popular fan is the medium-blade fan with a price of 700,000 - 800,000 VND/unit, suitable for the income of many young households with small children. In addition to the cooling function, most rechargeable fans are equipped with some additional features such as lighting, timer, alarm, etc.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Hanh, owner of an electrical appliance store in Lap Thach town, Lap Thach district, said that the number of rechargeable fans sold since the beginning of the month has increased significantly compared to normal days. Ms. Hanh also predicted that this number will increase even more.
"Like last year, the peak was when the store sold dozens of rechargeable fans a day. The warehouse often had to import more goods and call other establishments to supply customers, sometimes "out of stock" and there was nothing to sell. This year, I think the rechargeable fan business will still be viable.
It is forecasted that in May, the phenomenon of heat waves and severe heat waves across the country is likely to appear more than the average of many years in the same period, the average temperature is 1-3 degrees Celsius higher. At this time, the price of rechargeable fans is cheaper than the "fever" period last year, but in just 1-2 months, the price will probably increase again because the weather is getting hotter, many people using electricity will have to take turns cutting off the power", Ms. Hanh said.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Hai, owner of an electrical appliance store in Dong Tam ward, Vinh Yen city, shared: The number of customers buying generators and rechargeable fans has increased significantly since the beginning of May. Not only customers in the city, but people in neighboring districts also ordered quite a lot through e-commerce platforms.
For each customer, we always carefully advise on the type of machine that meets the actual needs of use. For example, if only serving essential needs such as lighting, fans, televisions, families only need to use a machine with a capacity of 1 - 2.2 kW. However, if using additional air conditioning, it must be a machine with a capacity of 3.5 kW or more. The most important thing to note is that when looking to buy a generator, customers need to choose a machine that is distributed by a genuine manufacturer and has a full warranty policy.
It is forecasted that this summer will continue to be hot and there may be more power outages. Buying cooling devices to use immediately when there is a power outage is also necessary, especially for families with elderly people and young children.
However, according to the owners of household electrical stores, because they use batteries or accumulators, some cheap, unknown-origin rechargeable fans always pose a risk of fire or explosion when used in hot weather. Generators without a name or clear origin will not ensure the safety of household electrical appliances and can consume a lot of fuel. Therefore, people need to carefully research and choose to buy quality products at reputable stores to ensure safety when using.
