Adapting to artificial intelligence technology achievements

Báo Thanh HóaBáo Thanh Hóa25/04/2023

Recently, with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI) technology product ChatGPT has created a big wave, affecting all aspects of life, including theeducation industry. So how to take advantage of the advantages that "artificial super intelligence" brings in supporting teaching, information search, while limiting risks?

Adapting to artificial intelligence technology achievements The board of directors and teachers of Nam Ngan Secondary School regularly guide and remind students about the proper use of social networks and AI technology.

In order to soon have thorough studies and appropriate actions to minimize negative impacts, effectively promote the positive impacts of AI in general and ChatGPT in particular in education, while minimizing the negative impacts and negative aspects of network technology... are the contents discussed at the seminar "Chat GPT, Artificial Intelligence - Benefits and challenges for education" organized by the Ministry of Education and Training , Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences recently in Hanoi. At the seminar, experts said that in order to exploit the positive aspects and limit the negative aspects of AI, it is necessary to create a policy and legal corridor to use AI technology or ChatGPT in real life; build a synchronous digital infrastructure; fully develop industry databases; train a team of managers and teachers to better adapt to artificial intelligence technology and innovation in technology...

ChatGPT was launched at the end of November 2022 with the full name Chat Generative Pre-training Transformer, a chatbot developed by the startup OpenAI (USA). ChatGPT can be simply understood as an AI product. The special feature of AI lies in the "warehouse" of knowledge that ChatGPT has learned and attracts attention when it can give contextual answers to a variety of topics. This AI operates based on the NLP (Natural Language Processing) natural language processing model, trained with large data sources on the Internet to answer users' questions.

For the education sector, ChatGPT's "intelligence" is capable of summarizing documents, conducting in-depth research, searching for information in the "blink of an eye", even preparing lessons, answering questions, commenting on students' learning outcomes, writing theses, solving exercises, writing essays, composing poems... However, the question is how to effectively use the advantages of ChatGPT in the teaching process of teachers and looking up students' information?

Mr. Le Cao Ban, Principal of Nam Ngan Secondary School ( Thanh Hoa City), said: Understanding the psychology of liking to use technology and the ability to grasp quickly, the ability to access new technology of students, the school organized a thematic talk with students about the proper use of social networks. At the same time, the school's board of directors also shared with teachers, so that teachers could guide students, recommend parents to coordinate to manage students' use of social networks, especially ChatGPT effectively, avoid abuse, create a passive mentality, lazy thinking, dependence on AI.

In fact, researchers and OpenAI itself - the company that founded ChatGPT - also admit that ChatGPT can provide learners with bad, harmful information, even equip them with incorrect knowledge, which can cause serious consequences for the education sector. This further shows that ChatGPT helps teachers realize their role as a guide, not simply a knowledge transmitter. Each teacher must not only adapt but also stay ahead of the trend to promote the advantages of technology, guide students to use AI tools properly, guide students so that they do not lose their learning and thinking skills...

Sharing about the school's orientation for students, Mr. Nguyen Tai Quyen, Principal of Trieu Son 5 High School, said: Although ChatGPT is not yet popular in schools, the school still recommends to students that ChatGPT should only become a channel to learn knowledge, and should not be abused, especially not abused in solving homework and in exams, otherwise it will lead to unpredictable consequences.

It is undeniable that AI technology in general and ChatGPT in particular have brought the education industry into a new era, the era of digitalizing education and enhancing the personalization of learners, helping learners to self-study, contributing to improving the digital capacity of both teachers and learners. However, besides the positive aspects, ChatGPT also brings concerns about cheating in exams and in the performance of learning tasks of students.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tai, Vice Principal of To Hien Thanh High School, said: With a total of over 1,000 students, the benefits and consequences of using AI technology, ChatGPT brings to the school are huge. Therefore, the school is currently researching to have information disseminated to teachers first. After that, teachers will be the ones to guide students to use it as a supplementary tool for the learning process, avoiding cases where students are lazy to study and lazy to think.

However, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tai also commented that ChatGPT is more suitable for students who are self-study conscious and for those who are working and university students who want to self-study or supplement their knowledge. The role of students is to study, memorize, think, apply... to have basic knowledge for exams and improve and develop themselves.

Although it is still in the trial phase and not really convenient to register for a ChatGPT account, the reality is posing challenges for the education sector, requiring the entire sector to soon have solutions to anticipate the benefits and overcome the shortcomings that ChatGPT brings, because the use of AI tools, ChatGPT... is inevitable in the digital age.
