She is a kindergarten teacher, always gentle and devoted to her students. At school, the children love her very much; and when she comes home, she devotes her love to potted plants, flowers and her lovely little garden. She likes to grow roses, succulents, eggplants and especially cool green cucumber trellis. For her, taking care of plants is a joy, a way to relax after working hours at school.
But then, one day she discovered that when the cucumber trellis began to bloom and bear fruit, a squirrel frequently visited the nearby electric wire. It nimbly jumped back and forth and did not hesitate to “steal” the flowers and young melons she planted. Seeing the plants she had worked so hard to care for being destroyed, she was very sad. Her neighbors saw this and advised her to buy a trap to catch that naughty squirrel.
A few days later, the trap finally caught a big squirrel. That morning, she only had time to lock it in a cage and then hurried to school. During recess, she told the children about the little squirrel. She asked them: “What do you think I should do with the squirrel? Either give it to a neighbor who likes to raise pet birds, or release it back into the forest?” Immediately, dozens of little hands raised high, saying in unison: “Let the squirrel go back into the forest, teacher, so it can go back to its home!”
Listening to the children, she felt relieved and loved their innocence and purity even more. However, when she returned home and told them about her decision, her two children kept asking her: “Mom, let’s raise a squirrel! Let’s take care of it so it won’t be afraid of hunger or sun or rain anymore!” That night, she tossed and turned thinking. In the end, she still decided to return the squirrel to nature, where it belonged.
On Sunday morning, her son drove her and the squirrel to the forest in Phuoc Dong commune. She gently opened the cage door to let the squirrel jump out. It hesitated for a moment, then quickly darted into the lush green trees, gradually disappearing into the deep forest. Looking at the squirrel, she smiled happily, feeling that she had done the right thing.
