Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Giang, Chairman of the Science and Training Council of Hanoi National University, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, Chairman of the Professional Advisory Council, experienced the sacred moment when witnessing the efforts of the team to recreate the historical moment of President Ho Chi Minh reading the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945 at Ba Dinh Square, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
Attention to detail
As soon as he started working, Mr. Giang was aware of the enormous challenges of this project. He said that this was a project with many strict requirements, because the team had to recreate a historical event that many people knew about, with an image that was promoted almost every year. Therefore, how to meet the public's expectations was not simple.
"Not to mention, a creative product must have something new and attractive. But this is a sensitive event, so creativity is not easy, " he said.
Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Giang, Chairman of the Science and Training Council of Hanoi National University, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, Chairman of the Professional Advisory Council for the experience "Returning to the sacred moment".
According to Professor Giang, every element from the beginning has been meticulously cared for, from the costumes of the crowd, the props in hand, the way each character shouts slogans, or shows different facial expressions... all were paid attention to and learned from, and refined after each test run.
“We put a lot of effort into making sure every little detail was as close to perfection as possible,” he said .
Even choosing the excerpt from the Declaration of Independence was not easy. In the short time, which idea to choose to both maintain the spirit of the document and create strong emotions? In the end, the group decided to choose the introduction and the passage affirming the nation's will to maintain independence.
Viewers will be able to join the crowd and witness the sacred historical moment of the nation: President Ho Chi Minh reading the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, Hanoi on September 2, 1945.
According to Professor Giang, the first sentence - only a few dozen seconds - but exuded a strong statement: The Vietnamese people have the right to enjoy freedom and independence. This is not only the dream of the Vietnamese people, but also a human value. "Uncle Ho quoted the Declaration of Independence of the United States - an immortal piece of literature highly regarded by the world... showing international integration since the middle of the 20th century" , he said.
Next is the passage about the Vietnamese people being a resilient people... "Clearly stating how we can gain independence, more importantly affirming our determination: to use everything we have to preserve that independence. I think this is the most important spirit in the declaration, and such a choice is completely reasonable," Professor Giang analyzed.
As a result, the product was accepted with positive feedback. During the second acceptance, he shared, some people said they got “goosebumps” when watching, which showed that the effect of the product was very real and successful.
Memories revive in every narration
For Professor, Doctor of Science Vu Minh Giang, this is not just a professional task. When writing the introduction, he included vivid images and personal emotions. He recalled the actual images he saw of the event and his imagination: “My real feeling is that people coming from many directions will create a scene like going to a festival. A festival that is both sacred and filled with ultimate joy - because for the first time, the Vietnamese people enjoyed independence, officially declared not only to their compatriots in the country but also to the whole world”.
“When I returned to this historical moment, my emotions were especially strong. I felt the most sacred things of the nation, the most quintessential things of the country’s history – recreated in a very short time. From then on, my patriotism seemed to boil and flare up strongly,” shared Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Giang.
For that reason, he chose to use the phrase “return to the sacred moment” instead of “live with history”. According to him, history is what has passed, we can only “return” to a certain moment in the past. “The essence here is that we are bringing people back 80 years ago. Therefore, ‘return to the sacred moment’ is a more appropriate and logical expression ,” he said.
From personal experience to message for the younger generation
Mr. Giang lived through two wars. As a child, he grew up in the war zone, and as a young man, he spent his years in the army. It was those memories that made him emotional when participating in the project.
He said: “ When I returned to this historical moment, my emotions were especially strong. I felt the most sacred things of the nation, the most quintessential things of the country’s history – recreated in a very short time. From then on, my patriotism seemed to boil and flare up strongly.”
Students of the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology were moved when experiencing the sacred historical moment of the nation.
Commenting on the integration of modern technology into recreating a historical event, Mr. Giang believes that VR is the bridge that helps the young generation feel history with both their hearts and senses.
“If young people experience this product, they will definitely love it… We can help viewers ‘immerse themselves’ in that historical space, creating a very high effect, which will certainly be well received by the public, especially young people,” he said.
For those who experienced the war like him, it was a journey of “return” that was both strange and familiar. For today’s young generation, this was an opportunity for them to stand for the first time in Ba Dinh Square of that autumn – to feel, to be proud of, and to preserve the values that had been built with the blood and tears of their fathers and brothers.
The experience "Returning to the sacred moment" is open to the public from 8am on August 19 to 21 at the National Broadcasting Center, 58 Quan Su, and from August 28 to September 5 at the Dong Hoi National Exhibition Center - Dong Anh, Hanoi.
