On the sidelines of the workshop summarizing the application of the 6C strategy in teaching physicaleducation at primary level held in Hanoi on May 13, Prof. Dr. Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, said that in recent times, the stature of Vietnamese people has improved but relatively slowly compared to other countries in the region.
Compared to countries like Japan, Korea, and even some countries in Southeast Asia, we are still relatively small and below average.

According to him, there are 3 factors that affect physical development: genes, nutrition and exercise. Genes are factors that we cannot change, we can only influence the other 2 factors. The first is forming the habit of exercising more. The second is about eating, breakfast and lunch are 2 very important meals for young children.
"For example, Japan has a school nutrition policy, requiring 100% of schools to provide lunch at noon. This has greatly improved the stature of Japanese people.
Therefore, we are determined to implement two sessions a day, strengthen physical education, and require boarding meals for students as prerequisites in the coming time," said Professor Vinh.
Children have less and less time for physical activities.
He added that in reality, with today's life, many students in urban areas do not have many opportunities to exercise outside of school.
Students usually study all day at school, come home in the afternoon and have little time to exercise outdoors. Therefore, if they are not actively involved in physical activities at school, they will have very little time to exercise. This will limit the health development of children.
Currently, in the general education program, physical education is only 2 periods a week and that is not enough, it can be expanded to 4 periods a week.
"Children's physical activity does not only come from lessons but also needs to be formed as a habit. We hope that through children becoming more active and proactive, they will have the habit of exercising every day," emphasized Professor Vinh.
Physical education classes not only help students improve their physical fitness and motor skills, but also play an important role in forming a healthy lifestyle, discipline and self-confidence for students.
The 6C strategy applied in physical education hours through games will help all children confidently participate, thereby creating excitement and love for movement in children.
The 6C strategy consists of 6 elements: Confidence, Contribution, Connection, Clear/Concise, Choice and Celebration.
This strategy is part of the project "Developing Physical Education in Primary Schools in Vietnam" (Active with Sports) launched in 2020. The aim of the project is to develop physical education in primary schools nationwide.
