On September 1, Tien Giang Provincial Police reported a fire at a 220kV transformer station in Cai Lay town.
According to the police, at around 9:30 p.m. on August 31, the Cai Lay Fire Fighting and Rescue Team (Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department, Tien Giang Provincial Police) received a report of a fire at the Cai Lay 220 KV Transformer Station (Ward 5, Cai Lay Town).
Immediately, 17 officers and soldiers and 3 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene.
At the same time, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department Command of the Provincial Police mobilized 1 command vehicle, 2 fire trucks, and 17 officers and soldiers to the scene to fight the fire.
According to the police, the fire covered an area of about 100 square meters out of a total area of 33,000 square meters of the transformer station.
By 10:55 p.m. the same day, the fire was under control. Police continued to take cooling measures to completely extinguish the fire and assigned forces to be on duty at the scene to promptly handle any fire incidents that may arise.
The fire did not cause any human casualties, but damaged two transformers.
Because the transformer station supplies electricity to 16 communes and wards in Cai Lay town and 15 communes and towns in Cai Lay district, the incident affected hundreds of thousands of people and production and business units.
This morning, Southern Power Corporation and specialized agencies went to the scene of the fire to clarify the cause and find a solution.
According to the National Power Transmission Corporation, initial information is that lightning struck the 22kV underground cable tower outside the station and then spread to Cai Lay transformer station, causing a 110kV transformer failure at Cai Lay transformer station. At this time, the area was experiencing heavy rain and thunderstorms.
As reported by VietNamNet , on August 31, the transformer station of Power Transmission Company 4 (under the National Power Transmission Corporation, located near National Highway 1, Ward 5, Cai Lay town) exploded and then caught fire fiercely.
According to local residents, during heavy rain, they suddenly heard many loud explosions, then a fierce fire broke out from the transformer station.
Some people filmed the scene of the transformer station on fire. The images showed flames billowing from inside the transformer, shooting hundreds of meters into the air.
