Born into a poor family in a rural area in Yen Thanh District ( Nghe An Province), her father is blind and her mother is also blind, but with her will and determination, this female student has always strived to excel in her studies. For 12 consecutive years, she has achieved excellent student results and became one of the top students in the C00 block nationwide.
The portrait of that determined girl is Nguyen Thi Cam Tu, a former student of Phan Thuc Truc High School (Nghe An province). In the 2024 high school graduation exam, Tu scored 29.75/30 points, specifically, literature: 9.75, history and geography: 10 points. In addition, Tu also scored 10 points in civiceducation . What's special, Tu said it only took about 7 minutes to complete the history exam.
Never feel sorry for yourself because of your circumstances
Talking to Tu, the writer felt the positivity of this girl through every word. When asked about her motivation to excel in studying as well as in life, she did not hesitate to talk about her father and mother. “I hope to study really well so that I can have a stable job in the future to support my parents. My father is visually impaired, and my mother has a pinched nerve in her brain, so she cannot see clearly. Therefore, my parents have worked very hard to raise me to study,” Tu shared.

Although her family situation is difficult and her parents are struggling, Tu has never once thought of using her situation as an excuse to give up her studies. Tu confided: “I have never been discouraged or thought of dropping out of school. I have not felt sorry for myself but have accepted my situation since I was young. I love my parents very much and they have always cared for me and created conditions for me to go to school. Therefore, I have to try my best to pursue my education to the end. Only studying can make my future brighter.” Although she has achieved excellent results throughout her 12 years of study, Tu believes that she did not study very well before. However, since grade 11, when she realized her parents' hardships, she determined to make an effort in her last two years of school. “No matter what the circumstances are, no matter how difficult they are, I always try my best to improve. In grade 12, I participated in the provincial excellent student competition in history and won third prize and second prize in civic education,” Tu proudly said.
Not too surprised with the score achieved
With a score of nearly perfect 29.75/30, Tu said he was not too surprised. “I had expected the score I would get, because I usually got a score close to that when I took the mock test at school. But being the top student in the country, I was really surprised and very happy. Because I thought this year's top student would probably get 30 points,” Tu shared. Tu said his strong subject is history, so it only took him about 7 minutes to complete this test. “The rest of the time I just sat there checking my answers and didn't correct them,” Tu said.

With her experience, Tu believes that the secret to studying social subjects well is simply memorizing. “In addition to memorizing, sometimes I have to study in a way that makes me remember for a long time, without having to review many times. Because I really like social subjects, I find that I learn quite quickly and always have the habit of linking knowledge together to make it easier to remember. In addition to studying in class, I also participate in online courses on the internet,” Tu shared. Every day, Tu goes to bed at 9 p.m. and wakes up around 4 or 5 a.m. to study. The valedictorian always emphasizes self-study and determines the method that is right for her. However, Tu admitted that she is sometimes quite lazy to study, waiting until close to the exam date to review. “Because I have absorbed and memorized the lesson while listening to lectures in class, so just before the exam date, I only need to review. The remaining time at home, I usually spend studying subjects in the D1 group,” Tu said. As Tu's homeroom teacher, Ms. Phan Thi Ha shared: "Tu is a proactive student, has a high sense of self-awareness in learning, and is not afraid to ask teachers when he does not understand. He always sets goals to strive to achieve. Aware of his family's circumstances, Tu always tries to improve himself. Tu's achievements are worthy of all his efforts, I am very proud of this student."
