High income from bonsai care and repair

With a passion for growing ornamental flowers, Mr. Bui Thanh Hung in Vinh Phung hamlet, Vinh Trinh commune, Can Tho city has learned, researched and become a professional ornamental craftsman, creating beautiful yellow apricot and bonsai works with high economic value. Thanks to his skillful craftsmanship, Mr. Hung now has a stable customer base, with an income of about 15 million VND/month.

Although his hands have many calluses, Hung’s fingers are very flexible and skillful in shaping each bonsai. Hung confided: “Each bonsai has its own shape and beauty. My job is to look and feel to find the most hidden beauty to honor. This is not only manual work but also an art that requires patience and creativity.”

According to Mr. Hung, the love for bonsai for young people who work in shaping and caring for bonsai is ignited by following their grandfathers and fathers to learn how to bend a mai branch and prune a bonsai pot. However, the journey to turn passion into a career has never been easy. Mr. Hung is the same. Previously, he used to grow yellow mai, laurel and fir trees to satisfy his passion for bonsai. To turn small finger-sized trees into beautiful works worth tens of millions of dong is a process of care for decades. Without passion for bonsai and perseverance, there will be no success.

Besides nurturing and caring for seedlings, for nearly 10 years, Mr. Hung has been purchasing yellow apricot, fir, laurel, mai chieu thuy... to care for and shape for business. With meticulous care from fertilizing, pruning and adjusting beautiful tree shapes, Mr. Hung's bonsai garden has been trusted and supported by many customers.

By combining his passion for art, diligence, creativity in work and sharp economic thinking, Mr. Hung also inspires and helps many young people in the bonsai repair profession have a stable income. Since 2020, Mr. Hung has established a bonsai repair team with 7 members. The team not only operates in Can Tho City but also in An Giang, Vinh Long and Dong Thap provinces... to repair bonsai.

Just with the job of taking care of ornamental plants for customers, Mr. Hung earns from 500,000-600,000 VND/day. The remaining members earn about 400,000-500,000 VND/day, depending on their skills. Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang in Vinh Quy hamlet, Vinh Trinh commune said: "Before, I worked as a construction worker, with an unstable income. Since joining Mr. Hung's ornamental plant repair team, I have earned 500,000 VND/day."

“I am planning to grow small yellow apricot trees to create bonsai works to sell on the market. At the same time, I will continue to maintain and develop a professional bonsai team to share experiences and inspire passion for young people with the same interests,” said Mr. Bui Thanh Hung.
