Student volunteers helped load goods and necessities onto trucks on the afternoon of October 13.
On October 14, the second “Charity Bus” organized by the Can Tho City Labor Federation departed for the flood victims in Thai Nguyen province. The bus carried 20 tons of goods and necessities worth over 727 million VND, and is expected to arrive in Thai Nguyen province on October 16.
At 6 p.m. on October 13, a truck carrying 15 tons of goods departed from Nhut Doan motorbike shop, No. 3A, Song Hau, Cai Khe ward, on its way to the North. This was also the final goods gathering point after several days of mobilization by Ms. Tran Truc Ly and Mr. Nhut Doan's group. From 2 p.m., dozens of people were present to help load the goods onto the truck. In addition to the volunteer group organizing the program, there were also about 50 students from Nam Can Tho University and Can Tho Medical College and members and youth of Cai Khe ward Youth Union who came to help.
Student Phan Anh Hoang, Can Tho Medical College, shared: “I am a member of the school's Blood Donation Club. The club members told me that they needed members to support the relief trip for people affected by storms and floods, so I signed up. A few days ago, I also joined the charity trip of the City Youth Union and the City Labor Federation. My friends and I are very happy to contribute to these meaningful activities, joining hands with the whole country to turn to the beloved North.”
For nearly 4 hours, the young people actively carried and arranged goods (rice, noodles, cakes, mineral water, canned food, medicine, notebooks, diapers, milk, clothes, etc.) and hundreds of mud pushers for people to clean their houses after the flood receded, neatly onto the vehicle. Even though it started to rain at 5 p.m., everyone continued until it was finished. The vehicle rolled away in the emotion of everyone, everyone wished for a safe journey and to quickly bring essential supplies to the people in the flooded areas.
Ms. Tran Truc Ly, in charge of the program, said: “This trip will bring goods to the villages affected by storms and floods in Cao Bang province. Due to landslides on the road, the 15-ton truck cannot reach the destination but will stop in Hanoi , then transfer the goods to small trucks to take them to the necessary points. In Can Tho, Mr. Nhut Doan and I called for and mobilized goods to the receiving points. We only receive goods, not money. If anyone is busy and cannot buy, we send the phone numbers of convenience stores and grocery stores for them to order and then the store will deliver them to the gathering point. Regarding vehicles, Pham Huyen Anh's group donated 19 million VND and some brothers and sisters donated a few million VND each to have the funds to hire a vehicle to transport the goods.”
At noon on October 12, the Can Tho City Volunteer Traffic Rescue Team's convoy of vehicles to provide relief to people affected by storms and floods in the North set off with two trucks carrying goods and necessities and two rescue vehicles. Mr. Nguyen Trong Hieu (commonly known as Lu Long), head of the Can Tho City Volunteer Traffic Rescue Team, said: "The team will go to the provinces of Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh... by contacting the local authorities and police for support and guidance to deliver gifts to the people. In addition to 13 tons of goods, the team also brought two canoes to bring people and goods to flooded areas."
