Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed to the plan to take 9 consecutive days off for the Lunar New Year.

On October 13, the Government Office issued Document No. 9859/VPCP-KGVX on Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.

The document states: Considering the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Document No. 8764/BNV-CVL dated October 1, 2025 on the plan for Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agrees with the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the above document on Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026. The Minister of Home Affairs notifies administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, socio-political organizations, enterprises and employees according to regulations.

Agencies and units shall arrange and organize on-duty departments according to regulations and work reasonably to handle work continuously, ensuring service to the people. Ministries, agencies and localities shall have specific and appropriate plans and measures to encourage units, enterprises, organizations and individuals to actively and proactively implement measures to develop production, business, economic and social activities, ensure supply and demand of goods and services, stabilize prices and markets, contribute to promoting economic growth, practice thrift, and combat waste before, during and after the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.

*Previously, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued Document No. 8764/BNV-CVL dated October 1, 2025 to the Prime Minister regarding the proposed Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.

According to the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs, civil servants and public employees will have Lunar New Year holidays from Saturday, February 14, 2026 (December 27, year of the Snake) to Sunday, February 22, 2026 (January 6, year of the Horse). Thus, the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year holiday will last 9 consecutive days, including 5 Tet holidays according to the provisions of the Labor Code and 4 weekend days.

The Ministry of Home Affairs also proposed that on the occasion of the National Day holiday in 2026, civil servants and public employees will have a day off on September 2, 2026 and the day immediately preceding September 1, 2026; swapping the working day from Monday (August 31, 2026) to the weekly day off on Saturday (August 22, 2026).

Civil servants and public employees will have the 2026 National Day holiday from Saturday, August 29, 2026 to Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Thus, on the occasion of the 2026 National Day holiday, civil servants and public employees will have 5 days off (including 2 National Day holidays according to regulations, 2 weekly days off and 1 day exchanged with a weekly day off)...
