Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his delight at meeting Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Penitala Teo for the first time; affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening friendly and cooperative relations with Tuvalu; and hopes that the two countries will soon officially establish diplomatic relations.
The Prime Minister also suggested that the two sides increase delegation exchanges and high-level contacts; form and implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms to take advantage of the cooperation potential between the two countries.
Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Penitala Teo agreed with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s proposals; shared the difficulties Tuvalu is facing, including responding to climate change and rising sea levels, and expressed his wish for Vietnam to strengthen cooperation with Tuvalu in this field.
The two leaders also discussed measures to enhance consultation, coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums and on international and regional issues of mutual concern, including strengthening cooperation between ASEAN and Pacific island countries and supporting the stance of Vietnam and ASEAN on the East Sea issue.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh invited the Prime Minister of Tuvalu to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time; the Prime Minister of Tuvalu happily accepted the invitation./.
