Efficiency from building a green tea production chain

Thanks to building a chain linking production and consumption of green tea products, Long Coc safe tea production cooperative has 4 products meeting OCOP standards.

The district currently has over 3,880 hectares, of which nearly 3,780 hectares are producing, concentrated in the communes of My Thuan, Minh Dai, Van Luong, Long Coc, Tam Thanh, Tan Phu, Thu Cuc with popular tea varieties such as LDP1, LDP2, PH1... In recent times, the district has focused on guiding and supporting people to implement organic tea growing, production and processing processes; applying technical measures and safety standards; using management systems and productivity improvement tools in tea production and processing... Thanks to that, the average yield of tea trees in the district has continuously increased, reaching 11.9 - 12.1 tons/ha/year. The economic efficiency of tea trees has been clearly affirmed, helping people have a stable source of income.

Identifying the potential and advantages, the District Party Committee issued Resolution No. 05-NQ/HU dated February 19, 2021 on developing key and specific agricultural and forestry products according to production linkage chains for the period 2021-2025. Tea is one of the product groups supported for construction. Up to now, 5 production and consumption linkage chains of tea products have been formed and achieved high economic efficiency.

A typical example is the chain linking production and consumption of green tea products led by the Long Coc Safe Tea Production Cooperative, implemented through the project "Improving the quality of green tea associated with building the Phu Tho tea brand". The Cooperative has planned a 15-hectare safe production area and been granted VietGAP certification. Ms. Pham Thi Hanh - Director of the Long Coc Safe Tea Production Cooperative said: "Building a chain linking production and consumption of products brings clear benefits, especially the Cooperative has built an on-site raw material area associated with safe tea processing according to VietGAP standards, managing the process of caring for and harvesting tea of households to bring to the market the highest quality tea products. Currently, the Cooperative has 4 tea products meeting OCOP standards, with an annual output of 8 - 12 tons".

Not only at Long Coc tea farm, the project of linking production and consumption of green tea products chaired by Xuan Dai Agricultural and Forestry Service Cooperative, implemented through the project "Improving the quality of green tea associated with building tea brands in Xuan Son National Park" also brought about clear results with the planning of a 16-hectare production area, granted VietGAP certification and having 2 tea products meeting OCOP standards, with an output of 4-6 tons/year.

In addition, the district has also built 3 production and processing chains linking tea production under the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) Program, including: Hoang Van Tea Production Cooperative, scale of 15 hectares; Muong Cuc Agricultural and Service Cooperative 5 hectares; Quy Le Tea Processing Facility 5 hectares. The output of the models is estimated at 5-6 tons/year.

Building and forming chain links in production and consumption helps tea products have stable output, and the important thing is that producers are aware of raising their responsibility and techniques in tea production and processing, thereby improving productivity and product quality, meeting the increasing demands of customers. In addition, the formation of safe green tea production linkage models contributes to promoting the restructuring of the tea industry in the district from processing black tea and raw green tea with low added value to processing green tea that brings high economic value, increases income for tea growers and protects the environment. Technical advances such as: gas and electric roasting systems instead of wood stoves, dryers, rolling machines, vacuum machines... are applied, increasing productivity, quality, ensuring food hygiene and safety, uniformity to meet the requirements of large-scale commodity production. Up to now, the district has 8 tea products that meet OCOP standards.
