On the afternoon of April 13, the Embassy of Sweden in Hanoi organized a culinary event called "Swedish Flavors - Afternoon Gifts" to facilitate cultural exchange and honor culinary passion.
This is an activity held to celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Sweden (1969-2024).
The event aims to share the rich culinary culture of the two countries, highlighting the profound influence of dishes on people's lives, while providing opportunities for interesting culinary collaboration and exchange.
At the event, attendees enjoyed a fusion of Swedish delicacies called "Mellanmål" and their Vietnamese counterparts, commonly known as "afternoon snacks."
Both "Mellanmål" and "afternoon snack" refer to light meals, usually in the afternoon or midday. While the specific dishes may differ, both concepts emphasize the importance of resting and enjoying light meals throughout the day.
Under the guidance of renowned Swedish chef Erik Videgard and Daewoo Hotel’s head chef Nguyen Dang Linh, attendees had the opportunity to witness the preparation of a range of delicious dishes and drinks.
The event welcomed 300 students aged 10-15 and the dishes all used Vietnamese ingredients.
In addition to stimulating the taste buds, this culinary experience also contributes to raising awareness of traditional cooking methods and creating a space for cultural exchange between Sweden and Vietnam. The event also features interesting quizzes and games, creating a deeper experience for participants.
Speaking at the event, Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam, Ann Måwe, stressed that this is a testament to the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries and the appreciation for cuisine and cultural exchange.
"'Taste of Sweden - Afternoon Treat' represents an important milestone in the enduring friendship between Sweden and Vietnam. Celebrating culinary traditions helps us to enhance cultural understanding and build stronger bonds. I am delighted to witness the combination of Swedish and Vietnamese flavors and I believe that this event will leave a good impression on all participants, promoting a deeper understanding of our common culture and heritage," said Ambassador Ann Måwe.
Chef Erik Videgård, who has contributed to many iconic restaurants and is a leading Swedish culinary expert, expressed his excitement when visiting Vietnam for the first time.
“Food has the incredible power to unite people, bridge distances and create common understanding. I am honored to share my passion for food and contribute to this meaningful event,” he said.
On this occasion, the Embassy of Sweden in Hanoi continues its strong commitment to promoting strong diplomatic relations between Sweden and Vietnam. Through cultural events and promotional initiatives in 2024, the Embassy wishes to contribute to promoting understanding, cooperation and friendship between the two countries./.
