In recent years, the cruise industry on the Hoai River has developed quite strongly thanks to the increasing demand of tourists. Tourists can choose to experience and explore the mangrove forests and seagrass of the lower Thu Bon River. This mangrove forest area is mainly located in Cam Thanh commune.
Coconut trees grow along the banks of rivers and streams, green all year round, creating a very special habitat for this place. This place is also a famous historical relic, associated with the glorious victories in the two resistance wars against the invasion of the army and people of Hoi An, recognized as a provincial historical and cultural relic.
Regarding the unique value of coconut forests, MSc. Le Ngoc Thao - Secretary of the Management Board of Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An Biosphere Reserve said that coconut forests are a place that creates diverse biological resources, especially the resources in coconut forests are very important.
“Historically, coconut forests have protected local communities from natural disasters and storms. From a biological perspective, coconut forests are where fish, shrimp and other aquatic species reproduce, maintain biodiversity and create sustainable aquatic resources,” said Ms. Thao.

Research results from the Cu Lao Cham Marine Reserve Management Board show that the Cua Dai mangrove ecosystem attracts special attention from tourists from Europe, especially biologists, environmentalists and nature researchers, due to its biological diversity and rarity.
In 2023, the Cam Thanh Coconut Forest Historical and Cultural Relic Site was recognized by UNESCO as a “Typical Asia-Pacific Tourist Destination” and was honored at the Vietnam-India Cultural and Economic Exchange Forum. In 2024, the basket boat experience in Cam Thanh Coconut Forest was listed in the top 25 most attractive boat experiences in the world.
Hoi An’s river tourism potential is still very diverse and rich. Boating on the Hoai River in the poetic space of “Old Town Night” is an experience that is hard to miss for visitors.
During the day, on a cruise to visit traditional craft villages, visitors can explore unique cultural values such as experiencing the stages of pottery making, wood carving, mat weaving, fishing... Stories about the rivers associated with the ancient trading port of the world cultural heritage city - Hoi An ancient town need to be exploited and promoted.
Mr. Nguyen Su - former Secretary of Hoi An City Party Committee said: "Without the rivers, there would be no Hoi An port. Thus, it is the Thu Bon River, the Truong Giang River, the Co Co River and other rivers that created Hoi An port, not just Cua Dai Chiem".
In addition, from the river area of Hoi An, it is also possible to connect with neighboring localities such as Dien Ban, Duy Xuyen... to form new and unique tourist routes, creating more attractive discovery and experience products, imbued with the indigenous culture of Quang Nam.
