Dr. Nguyen Van Than was elected President of the Vietnam Classical Music Association.

On November 25, the first Congress to establish the Vietnam Classical Music Association, term 2025-2030, took place in Hanoi, with the participation of over 100 delegates, including musicians, artists, and music lovers.

With the spirit of "Solidarity - Creativity - Development - Integration", the 1st National Congress of the Vietnam Classical Music Association for the 2025 - 2030 term discussed and comprehensively evaluated all aspects of the work of the Association's Steering Committee; approved the draft Association's Activity Report as well as proposed directions and tasks for the next term with high consensus.

The Congress also conducted democratic elections in accordance with regulations, unanimously electing 15 members of the Executive Committee, 7 members of the Standing Committee and 3 members of the Inspection Committee. Dr. Nguyen Van Than (born in 1955), member of the 14th - 15th National Assembly of Vietnam, member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises was elected as Chairman of the Association; People's Artist Trinh Ngoc Khoi held the position of Permanent Vice Chairman; musician Tran Le Chien was Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Association.

Speaking at the opening of the Congress, Dr. Nguyen Van Than emphasized: The first National Congress of the Vietnam Classical Music Association for the 2025 - 2030 term is an event of special significance, marking a historical milestone in the development of Vietnamese culture and arts in general and classical music in particular.

According to Dr. Nguyen Van Than, with the desire to preserve and develop Vietnamese cultural values, in the context of the whole country moving towards an era of strong development and prosperity of the nation, people with passion and aspiration to contribute to building the country in the field of culture and art, aware of their own responsibilities, have worked together to establish the Vietnam Classical Music Association. The Association was officially established on October 22, 2025, according to Decision No. 1217/QD-BNV of the Minister of Home Affairs . Based on the approved charter, the Vietnam Classical Music Association operates with three main missions: Building a modern and sustainable Vietnamese classical music ecosystem; raising the status of Vietnamese artists in the international arena; contributing to the development of Vietnam's culture and art industry and contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.

To realize the above missions, the Association has oriented to implement three strategic tasks for the period 2025-2030. Specifically, the Association will form a Vietnam Music Talent Fund; build a network of international artists to teach in Vietnam; organize Masterclasses with scholarship programs at home and abroad, and strengthen extensive international cooperation with conservatories, academies and training facilities to increase learning and training opportunities for young talents.

In addition, the Association aims to build an annual national concert series; organize the Vietnam Classical Music Festival; support youth and semi-professional orchestras to connect with regional orchestras; and bring classical music to schools, hospitals and communities.

The Association will promote digitalization in its activities, promote livestreaming, podcasts and music education platforms; build online programs specifically for children and teenagers and create music products that can spread widely...

The President of the Vietnam Classical Music Association said that to demonstrate its determination to contribute to the country and society, the Association will organize a special concert on the evening of November 28, 2025, to call for kind hearts to support the people of the Central region who were severely affected by the recent floods. All the money raised from sponsorship and ticket sales will be sent directly by the Association to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to be transferred to the people in the flood-affected areas.

Expressing his emotion when being elected by the members as the President of the Association for the 2025-2030 term, Dr. Nguyen Van Than said that this is not only a personal honor but also a great responsibility for him in the coming time. He deeply understands that the Vietnam Classical Music Association was born with many important missions. In addition to connecting classical music lovers, the Association also accompanies the development of the nation's literature and arts to reach out to the world.

Through the ups and downs of history, Vietnamese music in general and Vietnamese classical music in particular have always gone hand in hand with the country's development. Many countries in the world have included classical music in their cultural diplomacy strategies, considering it a common language to connect peoples, promote economic cooperation and affirm identity. Therefore, Vietnam also needs a professional and prestigious institution to participate deeply in the integration flow.

The President of the Vietnam Classical Music Association pledged that in the coming time, the Association's Board of Directors will strive to perform well the functions and tasks stated in the Association's Charter, strive to bring the Association's activities to international level and bring high value, to expand the long-term cooperation network between Vietnamese artists and organizations, thereby raising the position of Vietnamese classical music. At the same time, it will continue to seek new development opportunities, following the strategic orientation of the Party and State on the development of cultural industry, in order to perform well the assigned tasks, contributing to enhancing the value of the Association's activities and bringing practical benefits to its members.
