Colonel, musician Ho Trong Tuan: The decision of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to establish the MSO is a historic turning point for the Army's arts. This is the result of a long and thorough preparation process, demonstrating a strategic vision in promoting the soft power of culture and art in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

More importantly, this is the first time in the history of the Vietnam People's Army that there is a regular, professional symphony orchestra, organized and operated according to an advanced model; participating in domestic and international cultural and artistic exchange programs; promoting international cooperation in the field of music . The birth of the orchestra affirms the stature, mettle and creativity of artists and soldiers in the period of international integration; on the other hand, contributing to the country's academic arts with an orchestra of international standards.

Colonel, musician Ho Trong Tuan: That's right. Historically, symphony orchestras have played an important role in many major works of our Army. The pioneering role was in the 1960s with the mobilization of musicians for the dance drama "Nghe Tinh Flame". Most recently, in musicals such as "Love Song" (2022) and "Red Aspiration" (2024). However, in the past, these orchestras were only temporarily formed for each project. After that, the musicians returned to their units, and there was no professional, regularly operating unit.

The birth of MSO has a particularly profound meaning. It is not only the inheritance of tradition but also a firm affirmation of an academic, professional, regularly operating art unit, creating a diverse system of Army art forms.

Colonel, musician Ho Trong Tuan: MSO is organized under the Military University of Culture and Arts - the cradle of leading professional arts training. This is a strategic combination.

Regarding expertise: Currently, the school has a team of talented lecturers and musicians trained domestically and internationally; many artists of the school have recently regularly participated in collaborating and staging many major symphonic and classical programs of the country and the Army, such as: Colonel, People's Artist Nguyen Xuan Bac; musicians Do Bao, Duc Tan, Mai Kien, Cao Dinh Thang... In addition, the school is closely connected with the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations , the Vietnam Musicians Association to consult on expertise as well as orientation in both expertise and personnel.

Regarding training: MSO is the ideal environment for practice, creativity and professional experience for the school's students, creating a close bridge between training and performance practice. In addition, MSO's talented artists are high-quality lecturers who complement the school's training mission. This combination creates a solid foundation for MSO to develop strongly in the period of international integration.

Colonel, musician Ho Trong Tuan: MSO has two parallel and important tasks: Serving political and defense tasks, performing performance programs serving political, defense tasks and defense diplomacy; spreading cultural values, organizing performances to serve people at home and abroad, participating in international cooperation. Symphony music, with its emotional power and profound humanity, will be an effective means to help convey the good values of the Army and the Vietnamese people to the general public.

Recently, MSO has successfully piloted chamber symphony art programs: "Song of Unification", "The Country is Full of Joy" to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification held in Ho Chi Minh City; "80 Years - The Everlasting Epic" to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 in Hanoi. The program and orchestra were highly appreciated by experts for the scale of organization as well as artistic quality when there was a harmonious combination between domestic and international musical works; between forms of artistic expression with the participation of MSO.

Through the programs, MSO has shown its own color when staging, performing musical works that have been with the times, works that play a mainstream role, contributing to the development of Vietnamese music from the past to the present. MSO artists have arranged instrumental works of Vietnamese revolutionary music, harmonized famous vocal works of Vietnamese revolutionary music combined with symphony orchestra. This is the way MSO elevates Vietnamese revolutionary music to a higher artistic quality, bringing symphonic music closer to the public.

We aim to build MSO into a symbol of intelligence, discipline and creativity, worthy of being the "musical voice" of the Vietnam People's Army in the new era.
