On the afternoon of July 28, at the seminar "Vietnam Cyber Security Day August 6 - Building digital trust", the National Cyber Security Association (NCA) announced that it will coordinate with SSI Digital Technology Company and Verichains Company to organize the GM Blockchain Security Forum event on August 1 in Hanoi to respond to Vietnam Cyber Security Day August 6.
As digital assets and the blockchain ecosystem continue to expand, cybersecurity threats are also increasing significantly, requiring a proactive, sustainable approach to protect the integrity and trust in the technology. The event is part of GM Vietnam - the largest blockchain week in Southeast Asia.
According to the National Cyber Security Association, the purpose of the conference is to create a connecting space where regulators and leading experts in cybersecurity and blockchain can exchange and share lessons learned from typical attacks. Thereby raising awareness of security risks, proposing new technological solutions and especially shaping a legal framework to protect users and promote innovation in the blockchain field.
Warning about attacks on blockchain systems
According to Chainalysis, from 2020 to February 2025 alone, the world has recorded 657 attacks on blockchain systems, causing losses of up to 12.8 billion USD. The first 6 months of 2025 alone witnessed losses of 2.17 billion USD, surpassing the whole of 2024.
The Bybit attack ($1.5 billion) became the largest hack in blockchain history, while individual wallet attacks accounted for 23.35% of the total damage - an alarming figure for both users and businesses.
A prominent attack involving platforms originating from Vietnam such as Sky Mavis (Ronin) in 2022 causing damage of more than 600 million USD or KyberSwap in 2023 with estimated damage of up to about 50 million USD is a clear warning about the urgency of ensuring security for domestic blockchain platforms, especially in the context that Vietnam is gradually perfecting the legal corridor for digital assets and piloting research on digital asset trading floor models applying blockchain technology.
Having the right direction and ensuring security from the very beginning will play a key role in building a transparent and sustainable blockchain ecosystem.
Although blockchain was created to ensure security and transparency, applications running on blockchain still have the potential to be attacked like other popular information technology systems.
According to the National Cyber Security Association, the main causes of blockchain system attacks come from vulnerabilities in source code, smart contracts, unsecured system design, or poor operating and management processes.
In addition, there are non-technical factors such as attacks on user weaknesses, fraud, and counterfeiting. In fact, these vulnerabilities are the main targets of hackers, any mistake can lead to serious damage of billions of dollars.
Cybersecurity for blockchain still depends on humans

Despite being an advanced technology, blockchain cybersecurity still depends heavily on human factors: from programming errors, poor security configuration, improper operation, to lack of independent monitoring and evaluation.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Son, Head of Technology Department, National Cyber Security Association said: “The digital economy is increasingly dependent on blockchain to store and trade assets, ensuring blockchain security is ensuring the safety of national digital assets. We need a comprehensive strategy, linking technology, law and raising public awareness”.
With the theme “Resilience & Trust in the Digital Future”, GM Blockchain Security Forum is an in-depth conference gathering leading domestic and international experts. The content revolves around analyzing billion-dollar hacks, MPC wallet attacks, malware risks, blockchain supply chain security, AML/CFT compliance and national data protection legal framework.
The focus of the workshop will be the discussion: “Vietnam on the global blockchain security map - Opportunities and challenges” with the participation of representatives of state management agencies, businesses and independent experts.
Mr. Nguyen Le Thanh, representative of Verichains emphasized: “Blockchain security is no longer an option but a prerequisite for building digital trust. We expect this event to be the starting point for many cooperation initiatives, helping Vietnam to be more proactive on the regional and global blockchain security front.”
