Quang Tri Province receives the National Historical Relic Ranking Certificate for Long Dai Ferry Terminal II

As part of a series of activities commemorating the 53rd anniversary of the sacrifice of 16 youth volunteers from Kien Xuong district (formerly Thai Binh province), now Hung Yen province at Long Dai ferry II (September 19, 1972 - September 19, 2025), on the evening of September 18, at Long Dai ferry II, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province coordinated with Vietnam Television to organize a special art program "Gratitude - The River of Fire and Flowers" and the Ceremony to announce the Decision and receive the Certificate of ranking as a National Historical Relic.

Attending the program were comrades of the Party Central Committee: Tran Quang Phuong, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly; Nguyen Van Hung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism ; Le Ngoc Quang, Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee. On the side of Hung Yen province, there were comrade Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province and comrades of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee; leaders of a number of departments, branches, localities and relatives of the martyrs.

Art performance at the program.

The art program recreated the heroic history of our army and people who steadfastly held on and fought bravely to protect Long Dai ferry II during the resistance war against the US to save the country. Long Dai ferry II is located on the strategic route 15, belonging to the Eastern branch of the legendary Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh trail, passing through Truong Ninh commune, Quang Tri province. This is a strategic artery for transporting goods and weapons to support the southern battlefield to fight the enemy. Overcoming enemy bombs and bullets, our army and people still steadfastly held on, many martyrs heroically sacrificed here to keep the Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh trail open during the resistance war against the US to save the country. In September 1972, 16 Youth Volunteers of Group 559, from Kien Xuong district (former Thai Binh province), now Hung Yen province, sacrificed their lives while on duty transporting and protecting the ferry.

At the program, besides the artistic performances, there were also touching reports about the losses and sacrifices of the Youth Volunteer Force in general and 16 Youth Volunteer Force soldiers of Hung Yen province in particular, forever dedicating their youth at Long Dai II ferry in the resistance war, gaining national independence and unifying the country.

In September 2025, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a Decision to rank Long Dai Ferry Terminal II as a national historical relic. At the program, the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded the National Historical Relic Ranking Certificate for Long Dai Ferry Terminal II to Quang Tri province. The relic has become an address for educating revolutionary traditions, arousing national pride for the young generation today and tomorrow.

Comrade Nguyen Van Hung, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, offered incense to commemorate 16 youth volunteer martyrs at Long Dai ferry terminal II.

Comrade Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Yen province, performed the ceremony of releasing flower lanterns to commemorate the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives on the Long Dai river.
