The veteran devoted himself to the common good

Having fought in the ancient citadel of Quang Tri, Mr. Nguyen Hong Quan, born in 1949, feels very lucky to be able to return to reunite with his family in Tan Cuong. Having gone through the arduous and fierce years of war, he deeply cherishes the peaceful days when the country was quiet. Therefore, he does not hesitate to participate in all local activities and always devotes himself to the work of the village and commune.

In 1986, Mr. Quan was discharged from the army and returned to his hometown. Being an active and energetic person, he was elected by the villagers to be the head of Nha Tho hamlet, Tan Cuong commune. After that, he continued to be elected to join the Front Committee and the hamlet Party Cell Secretary.

In every position, he has fulfilled his assigned tasks well, always mobilizing people to implement the Party's policies and the State's laws. His most profound mark was when the movement to harden traffic routes under the motto of the State and the people working together "flourished" in Xinjiang and other localities in the province (in 2001 and 2002).

At that time, in order not to miss the "opportunity", Mr. Quan and the heads of the hamlet's organizations went to each household to mobilize people to donate land, assets on the land and contribute funds to harden the roads. Thanks to that, after only a short time, most of the main and inter-household traffic routes of the hamlet (more than 10km) were hardened. The Church hamlet thus became more spacious, and people's lives were increasingly improved.

In 2022, the merger of hamlets to reduce the focal point was carried out by Thai Nguyen province. Accordingly, Nha Tho hamlet was merged with another hamlet and given the name Guoc hamlet. As an experienced and prestigious person, veteran Nguyen Hong Quan was elected as Deputy Head of the hamlet. After the merger, the number of households was larger, the whole hamlet had 168 households, and there was more local work, but the "fire" of enthusiasm was still burning in his mind.

He said: Seeing with my own eyes the people's lives becoming more and more prosperous and fulfilled makes me very happy! I am even happier when every day, I get to accompany the people in all local activities.

Not only enthusiastically participating in local activities, becoming a bridge connecting and building great solidarity between households, Mr. Quan also actively develops the family economy . In addition to developing the forest garden economy, planting 5 sao of rice every year (both spring and summer crops), he also invests in developing the raising of chickens, ducks, pigeons, and rabbits. He said: During the war, we were not afraid of hardship, let alone living in peacetime, we must strive to rise up.

Working hard to develop the economy, the couple has an income of about 150 million VND per year. The stable economy, the couple's two grown-up daughters and a peaceful life are a great source of encouragement for the family.

Before saying goodbye to us, he “showed off” that not long ago, the souvenirs (a shovel of a puppet soldier, a razor blade of an American soldier) that he kept from the battle on the banks of the Thach Han River in 1972 had been brought back to display at the Military Museum. He said: The war was so fierce, now American veterans and Vietnamese veterans can meet and hug each other in peacetime. Hopefully, in the future, the young generation will live in peace , not only with enthusiasm but also with knowledge and high professional qualifications to contribute to building the homeland more and more beautiful.
