Thanh Hoa province investigates the case of thousands of people complaining about pig farms

On July 2, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Le Duc Giang - Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee said that regarding the incident of the pig farm (in Tan Phuc commune, Lang Chanh district) causing odor pollution, the Provincial People's Committee has issued many directive documents related to the above incident. Along with that, Lang Chanh District People's Committee has also coordinated to handle it.

"Today or tomorrow, a representative of the Provincial People's Committee will directly go to this farm to inspect, and at the same time, direct the relevant agencies to resolutely intervene and handle the matter according to the law," said Mr. Giang.

Mr. Le Van Phu - Chairman of Tan Phuc Commune People's Committee (Lang Chanh District) said that regarding the above incident, yesterday afternoon, July 1, about several dozen people gathered at the pig farm area to express their dissatisfaction with the stench coming from this farm.

“People gathered at the pig farm gate for a short time to ask the company to fix the stench, then dispersed and went home,” Mr. Phu informed.

Also according to Mr. Phu, this afternoon, July 2, a working delegation of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province, led by Mr. Le Duc Giang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, will directly inspect this farm, and work with the farm and local authorities to come up with a plan to handle the incident.

As previously reported by Lao Dong, for many months, thousands of people in Tan Phuc, Tam Van communes and Lang Chanh town (Thanh Hoa province) have been restless due to the stench from the pig farm of Agri-Vina Agricultural Investment Joint Stock Company (located in Tan Phuc commune). The stench permeates everywhere, from the fields, on the mountains, inside houses, to school grounds...

Mr. Le Duc Tien - Vice Chairman of Lang Chanh District People's Committee said that since the people were upset about the incident, the district has received and worked with the farm 5 times, requesting the unit to fix the above situation. However, the stench has not only not decreased but also increased.

According to Mr. Tien, the above enterprise recently conducted a dialogue with the people. At this dialogue, the company asked for 2 more months (until October 2024) to handle the situation, but the people did not agree. The people requested that the foul smell must be resolved by August 5, 2024, according to the minutes of the interdisciplinary inspection team on June 5.
