TKV: Ensuring safe and effective coal supply

Faced with the pressure of supplying enough coal for thermal power plants in the context of prolonged drought and high electricity demand during the summer months, the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) is urgently implementing many strong operational solutions to maintain a stable coal supply chain, promptly meeting the demand for coal for electricity. With a core role in supplying coal to the economy, especially the electricity industry, TKV clearly defines its responsibilities and is ready to mobilize maximum resources to ensure a continuous, safe and effective supply of coal during peak periods.

At Km6 Port Warehouse - a key unit of Cam Pha Port and Logistics Company (TKV), the atmosphere of coal production and consumption from the beginning of 2025 to now has been bustling and urgent. This year, Km6 Port Warehouse was assigned a target of consuming more than 3.1 million tons of coal, an increase of about 10% compared to 2024. To complete this challenging plan, the unit proactively implemented many measures right from the beginning of the year; accelerating production, improving coal loading and unloading capacity and delivery, in order to quickly and effectively meet the demand for coal for electricity production during peak periods.

Mr. Do Tien Phuong, Head of Km6 Port Warehouse, said: “The unit took full advantage of favorable weather conditions in the first months of the year, implementing vibrant labor emulation movements in each workshop, group, and team. The unit proactively coordinated with coal mines to receive clean coal, organize reasonable blending with imported coal, serve processing and consumption according to technical requirements, ensuring enough coal for the market - especially thermal power plants”.

To complete the plan of more than 3 million tons, the unit has mobilized maximum machinery, vehicles and human resources. Coal mixing, processing and transportation activities are taking place continuously. The unit is closely coordinating with all stages from mine production, logistics to consumption, not allowing any stage to be blocked.

Not only Km6 Port Warehouse, the entire system of Cam Pha Port and Logistics Company - the core unit in TKV's coal consumption system also launched a vibrant labor emulation movement. Taking advantage of favorable weather conditions, the affiliated units maintained a high production pace and completed key targets, contributing to maintaining the progress of coal supply to power plants and large consumers in accordance with TKV's direction.

According to TKV's production and business management report, in the first 4 months of 2025, the Group consumed nearly 15.5 million tons of coal, reaching 35.5% of the annual plan, up 7% over the same period in 2024. Notably, the amount of coal consumed for electricity production reached 13.28 million tons, up 9% over the same period in 2024, accounting for nearly 86% of total coal consumption. In the context of a sharp increase in electricity demand during the dry season, TKV identified this as a key task and focused on directing units to prioritize all resources for supplying coal for electricity.

Coal production units adjusted their mining schedule, focusing on coal types that meet the requirements of thermal power plants, while speeding up processing, transportation, and warehouse delivery on schedule. In May and the following months, TKV maintained a high pace in coal production and consumption. According to the plan, in May alone, TKV is expected to consume 4.7 million tons of coal, of which coal for electricity accounts for 86%.

Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, General Director of TKV, said: In order to complete the plan to consume more than 50 million tons of coal in 2025, of which coal for electricity alone accounts for 36 million tons, TKV is implementing a series of operational solutions from production, logistics to consumption. Every month, TKV organizes production and operation meetings with member units to update the actual situation, thereby adjusting the coal delivery plan flexibly.

Coal mining, processing, transportation and consumption units are closely linked, helping to optimize coal resources from the mine to the end customer.   To compensate for the lack of coal types domestically, TKV proactively imports and organizes reasonable blending, ensuring quality and technical requirements for each customer.   The online production and consumption monitoring system helps the Group proactively coordinate stages, limit inventory, and optimize consumption efficiency.

In the context of the national electricity demand continuing to increase, especially during the peak of hot weather, the role of TKV is not only that of a manufacturing enterprise, but also a core force ensuring national energy security. Promoting coal consumption for electricity not only helps plants operate stably but also contributes to maintaining macroeconomic stability.

With high determination from the management system to each affiliated unit, TKV is firmly on the journey to complete the 2025 plan, making practical contributions to the sustainable development of the country.
